Just bought a C1000 from www.chaseandcompany.co.uk (http://www.chaseandcompany.co.uk) and its DOA, doesn't power up, nothing happens when I plug in the mains adapter, nothing, its a brick. (and a bloomin expensive one at that).
UPDATE: I now have a replacement, see below.
05-05-05 Spoke to Jeb on their live support, he couldnt bring up my payment information so was unable to verify I had actually bought anything, emailed, awaiting reply.
06-05-05 Email recieved, found my payment information. Asking to see if I had inserted the battery correctly (well, they have to ask!) and offering a return to sharp for warrenty service.
06-05-05 Email from Jeb enquiring about the possiblity of shipping damage, said there was a slight dink on one of the zaurus box corners, nothing significant.
06-05-05 Instructed to return the Zaurus & battery only to Japan as a warrenty return. (sent by fedex)
09-05-05 Spotted my package was being held by fedex for not having the correct internetional paperwork! I did include a commercial invoice with the fedex packing details but who knows.... After a few unhelpfull calls to fedex customer support (hey, at least they answer the phone). I faxed a replacement invoice and crossed my fingers.
11-05-05 Package recieved in Japan.
12-05-05 Email from Jeb, informing me my replacement has been shipped!
16-05-05 Replacement C1000 (same serial number as one returned)
(All dates are DD-MM-YY)
Well, in just 11 Days from recieving a fancy paperweight to getting a replacement C1000 I don't honestly think www.chaseandcompany.co.uk (http://www.chaseandcompany.co.uk) could have done any better, and I would have no qualms about dealing with them again in the future, in fact, they will be my first port of call for anything else I want importing.

Did you make sure that the battery cover slide lock is in the closed position? The Z won't start unless you do that.

Yes, the lock was in the correct position.

Does the unit seem to charge at all when you plug in the power?

OK, last thing, Try the following and see if the diag menus pop up...
1. Remove the battery and power - make sure the slide lock is in the open position before you continue.
2. Start holding D+M on the keyboard and don't release either until the instructions say so.
3. Insert the battery and flick the Slide lock into the closed position. (you don't need to touch the On button or try to get the door on)
All being well the unit should pop into the Service menu. You can release D+M now.

Nothing :/
Looks like I have a verified paperweight

Yep, Z's dead

OK, this is stupid, but I still ask : have you purchased a 220V supply ? By default, C1k comes with 110V ONLY power block (previous were 110/220).
Not to be pessimistic, but if you have a dead C1000 and if caseandcompany won't refund you (they say on their eBay auctions that they refund 110% if DOA, but I'm far not sure they'll do) I'm ready to give a very good price for it, since I need one to practise before I weld some chips in mine to have WiFi and Bluetooth.

I ordered a 220V mains adapter from chaseandcompany at the same time as the Zaurus and by some fluke it arrived on the same day as my DOA Zaurus.
I didn't buy from their ebay auctions as the website was cheaper than the usual buy-it-now with postage included in the on site price.
It is a shame the 220V adapter isnt of a similar design to the slimline 110V block that comes with the zaurus, the one I have is only slightly smaller than the one for my laptop!
In any event, I am now the happy owner of a fully working C1000 and plan on keeping it that way

Wow, if you manage that, please post your results on here. I'd love to have a clamshell with at least wifi built in.

- I got my C1000 from Chase & Company recently. They aren't the least expensive, nor the most, but they are VERY responsive to the customer, even *before* purchase. Poor Jeb answered tons of questions from me before I ordered mine, all the while saying he didn't really know Linux. (giggle) And it arrived in FOUR DAYS. That's from the day I ordered, all the way from Japan, in just four days, the week before Golden Week no less.
- Exemplary performance. Period...
