Title: Make Or Break Functionality
Post by: witzgall on May 13, 2005, 12:38:27 pm
I want to start a thread on what functionality do you need, but is missing from your Zaurus. I am not talking about features that are nice to have, or really want. So if ther is something that is missing, somehting that has started you thinking of moving on to some other PDA, then post it here, along with your reasons.

Here is mine: Synchronization with Microsoft Exchange. As soon as I got my Zaurus just the way I wanted it (never perfect, but ooh so close), my company moved to MS exchange for email and calendaring. I don't need to sync the email, but I do need the Calendar Sync! I have three different calendar systems that I have to keep track of at work, and I was ery happy to get rid of one of them when Exchange came around, meaning I could merge my personal calendar with work stuff. Well, Intellisync does not do exchange in the Lite version, and there is no upgade available for us to their enterprise version! UGH. I may have to go back to PPC, and I don't want to do that.

How about you???

Well, Murphy came to my house, and made things work for me. It seems that if you completely remove all folder associations in Intellisync, and then add the ones you want, the errors go away. So perhaps it took me posting this to get this to work, perhaps not. Anyways, I am a happy camper now, but the thread still stands.

So you CAN sync an offline exchange folder with your Zaurus, at least a sl6000.

although this isn't the answer for everything... I'm learning C++ and Qt so I can make the few apps that I want or may want.

I started with a yes/no/cancel popup (almost qmessagebox::input) and now I'm pretty much done with buzzword bingo :->

next I'm going to work on a texas hold'em trainer, probably also do a blackjack trainer... and if it's quick or requested, probably other casino game (trainers).

perhaps a mahjong.

perhaps a password management system, etc.

etc.

right now it's taking me about a month from start to finish, but I expect that to drop down to about a week...

I guess the big thing is that I'm not really just making these for the pda (well, not all of them) because I can make them for my normal env and they just run without porting... on the pda.
