My suggestion would be SuSE Linux Professional 9.3. It is my distro of choice when working with the Zaurus. It is very easy to configure and setup to work with the Zaurus. I have written a document describing how to do such which is available at my Zaurus synchronization projects website http://zsrep.sourceforge.net (http://zsrep.sourceforge.net). The SuSE 9.2 doc should apply directly to SuSE 9.3. I would also say that my project is the best chance at obtaining true synchronization with your Zaurus SL-6000. It currently has full support for To-Do synchronizations and will very soon have full support for Calendar synchronization. It is also being developed cross-platform now so it should work on Mac OS X, Windows (via Cygwin), and Linux in the next release.

Ubuntu is a Debian based Linux that is very popular these days.  I am also dying to try Gentoo.  I have been using mostly Mandrake since 7.2.  It works well with a Z.   But I am not as happy with 10.1.  The Z works fine with it.    It all depends on how much time you want to spend under the hood fiddling with everything.
I have not tried SUSE since the very early days.  Sounds like cyphactor has the Z finally working with full syncing with it.  I might give it a try too!

I used Mandrake for a long time (versions 6.0 to about 8.2), then used SuSE for a bit and switched to Ubuntu in the fall.  I'm very, very impressed with Ubuntu and highly recommend it.

That said, I haven't got my Zaurus working with it yet (it doesn't recognize it on the USB - I think it's more a problem with drivers and my hardware than anything but not sure yet).

Stay FAR FAR AWAY from RPM distros- a total pain.

Debian based distros have the best package manager, in my opinion. I use ubuntu. It also has the best community ever  (Ubuntu)

What is wrong with Slackware?

Slackware!  Though I've never tried to connect my Z to it.  I don't really connect my Z to anything, no real need.

I've been using Gentoo for about 4 years now and will never go back. Give it a shot.
