Title: C3000 Strange Behaviour
Post by: ztep on June 01, 2005, 06:23:03 am
I have been using a C3000 with Cacko 1.23 Beta1 ROM without problem during several weeks.
But two days ago, suddenly, the screen turns off while I was working with the zaurus. The Zaurus was still on, because I could hear the touchscreen clicks, but the screen was totally black.
I tried to switch off and on the Zaurus, but the screen does not turn on.
When I reset the machine I could see the linux boot message and the Cacko 1.23 start screen, but then, the screen turned off again, before the date change screen was shown.
The screen only turned on when I connected the power line to the zaurus, but when I disconnected the power the screen turned off again.
I tried to full charge the battery to test if it was a problem with the battery, but the problem persisted with the battery 100% charged.

After all this testing I have used the flash menu 3 to zero the ROM to it's initial state, and then all works fine again.

Any ideas?

It sounds like your battery power profile settings have the lcd backlight turned off?

Let me guess. Did you used the light control applet in your taskbar?  Most of the time, if you use the physical keyboard's lighting controls it should bring it back and stop the craziness.

I grabbed the combo battery/light applet from the iamasmith and installed it on my C1k, I occasionally have the same experience. As bludevils suggests use the Fn+4 key combo to  increase the screen brightness and the screen should come back on.

For me this only seems to hit after coming back from closing the lid or resuming while the applet is in the darkest setting, it's slightly better the Cxx0 version that blanked everytime the screen rotated.

Thanks to all.
I haven't touched the battery/light applet, but it is posible that I press the key combo without notice it.

Anyway after reseting the zaurus content (and reseting the applet configs to inst default values), it works again.

This experience will teach me to ask before using critical solutions.
