Hi!
I am building Zaurus batterys (for all zaurus until c860).
It's as big as the normal (small) 950mAh-battery. But it has 1600mAh.
The Price for one Battery is 25 Euro, and the shipping (from Germany) would be 6 Euro!
If there are any interests, write a mail to lzabel@gmx.de , and you will get some pictures.
In germany ( z-portal.info ), they are really in demand!

Let me get this streight!
you are building a battery for the zaurus sl5500? it isnt using a small 950 but its using a 1600? what protection are u using to prevent battery leak for years? i know i would get one as long as it can last over 2 plus years....
-
It's a Battery that is originaly produced for Nokia-Handys. It has 1600mAh, and is as big as the smal Sharp-battery. The Battery has the elektroic part for overhead-, short-circuit-, superchargin- protection.
For more safety, I solder an NTC (10k) into the conduction.
In this way, the zaurus is able to control the temperature of the battery.
And... if there will be any problems (like it isn't getting charged,... I will send a new one.
But I don't give any warrenty!
Greetings, Ludwig

So it's basically an inexspensive drop in replacement for original EA-BL06 Zaurus battery that happens to have better capacity? Cool!
Do you think it would be possible to ship one to someplace in the US, and would the cost of shipping still be 6 Euro or would it be more?

That's it!

That's, why I tell it in the zaurususergroup.
6 Euro Shipping is right.
We do it this way: You have to pay 6 Euro, and if you want, cou are allowed, to pay more.

HI!
For answering the mainaspects of the mails, i got:
-Are you really shipping worldwide?
Yes! Every Battery is 25 Euro + 6 Euro shipping!
-How may I beleave you?
You don't have to. But I sold very much Batterys in Germany (zportal.info), and everybody was happy!
Another way is ebay. I am selling them there too. (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38927&item=5779981588&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)
-how do I pay the battery?
I think, the easyest way is bank to bank transfer.
Or maybe paypal.
Grusz, Ludwig
-
- Huh.
- Is there a battery that can be refitted for a C-1000 that nearly doubles it's capacity? The 1800maH unit it has runs the thing forever, it seems, but why not have *MORE*? I'd be interested in a 3000maH battery that fit in the same slot, particularly if it were around EUR30 with shipping to the U.S. (wink)
- I could get used to once-weekly recharges, whether I needed them or not. (cheshire grin)
P.S. I unfortunately don't read Russion, which zportal.info appears to be in. Guess I'll see if Google can handle it. (grin)

i would actually be interested in checking out the battery. i ahve a new one i just purchased and i was thinking of adding an adaptor with 5200. basically lasts for ever. but i hate carrying 2 items in my pocket so the 1800 would be a better choice for me. let me know how i can grab one of your units.

- I tossed out 30 Euro. (hopeful smile) Really, I've no idea what a 3000+ maH battery costs. I could scour the web and find out, but I was sort of hoping you'd toss out a number, Lauter, and We The OESF-ers would provide feedback. (wink)
- Personally, however, if it costs nearly what a second battery would, I'm not very interested in it. As mentioned, the supplied 1800 maH battery runs the C1000 for a simply amazing amount of time ... I actually haven't recharged mine in four days and it's still *full*. I've travelled, using it for scheduling and looking up numbers on the road, plus a bit of 'tooth link to see the weather at the destination, with a mix of room (min brightness) and outside (max brightness), and a little movie playback.
- I originally posted my interest just after getting Hiro, when I didn't know how long the battery would last. Now that I've seen it goes and goes and goes, I'm just not as interested as I once was. BUT I am still interested, if it's not too expensive, just because I can! (wink)
- Thanks for your time...

- I take it, Maslovsky, that you aren't interested in Cricket's external battery and charger? I've been delaying selling this unit on eBay so you could get that if you wanted it, so timely communication may be desirable. I will assume you do not need it and list Cricket forthwith.
-
Could anyone of buyers of this "custom" battery review it? How good/bad is this replacement battery? Can it be charged inside the zaurus (I don't have the battery charger) and without the risk of zaurus damage?

I'd appreciate such a review too. Don't really want to lay out that much for a battery without some idea if it will charge from the cradle!

brashley46, odklizec,
I've bought a 1800 mA battery last week (thanks Ludwig !).
I haven't made full tests yet but i can say that :
- my zaurus lasts at least 2 times more than before when i use wifi,
- it can be recharged into the Zaurus with AC adaptor like the normal battery.
I will test charging with USB as soon as possible.
All seems great

I'm interested! What should I do if I live in Peru? I don't have a PayPal account since PayPal is not available for my country...
Any ideas? Are you still making this awesome batteries?

Hi!
Thx for the review.
I don't know, what's exactly the easyest way, to pay the battery (from peru).
Maybe, you could send the money by post? (I don't know, how save it is.)
Please write me a mail to lzabel@gmx.de

Been thinking about buying a spare battery for quite a while, saw this and realised it's quite a bargain.
I just ordered one for my Sl-C860. I'll post news when I've had a chance to test.

is this battery the same size as that of the 1600 mAh battery in my c860 or is it thinner (the present battery needs an extended cover increasing the size of the zaurus). I could really use a thinner battery than the one there is now.
shipping to netherlands also 6 euros ?

Hi tovarish
The 1800mAh-battery is as big as Sharps 950mAh-battery.

Ludwig,
What is your definition of " normally"? Do you perform any tests before shipping out your batteries?
-albertr
-
Lauter, btw how long does it take to ship to US? I'm going out of country end of the month and hope to test it out and use it before I go off. Is it possible to let me know the shipping estimated ETA? Thx!
-
Hi!
"normally" means normally.
About 95 % of the batteries are working very well (1800mAh). But sometimes, there are some (5 %), who have less then 800mAh (that's a problem of the maxcell batteries).
But I can't charge every battery and test it (that takes to much time). The only thing I test is, if it is working. If they don't, they don't go out (for that they don't freeze your Z ).
So, If there are some batteries, who are not working, I am very sorr!
But it's no big thing. Send the battery back, and you get a new one.
Shipping to US takes about 1 week.
Regards
Ludwig

Nevertheless, you can buy one to www.conics.net

I'm highly interested in your battery. I sent you an email a couple of weeks ago, but you probably did not receive it. Are you still selling those slim high capacity batteries ?

Hi Ludwig,
Its already Monday and still no sign of the battery. I doubt I can get it before I leave town. Its almost two weeks since paypal was sent. This is so disappointing.
I'll have to check/test it when I get back in 2~3 months time or get someone to ems to me the battery. *sigh*

Would you be willing to document how you do it? Could we buy standard Nokia batteries and change them?
-
Hi!
The things, you need for building a battery are:
1 battery for Nokia 7210 (mobile phone)
1 NTC with 10k
adhesive copper foil
soldering gun + solder + soldering adipose (I don't know, how to call it)
heat shrink tube
heat gun
Stuff for electroplating like gold dilution, ...
and some sellotape
If there is someone, who is really interested in building the battery itself, please write me a mail, and I'll explain it. lzabel@gmx.de
But I think, it's cheaper to buy a original Sharp battery, then building it itself..
Unless, you've gott all this stuff at home!

Regards
Ludwig
P.S.: Here are some Pictures of the battery

What battery are you using to get to 1700mAh? All the 7210 batteries I've found so far are all 650 or 750 mAh. Thanks!

Hi!
I get the batteries from a ebay seller.
If you search a little bit at ebay.de, you'll find what you're searchin for.

HI there again!
I got so much mails of Interests ( like couldn't you please build one last battery for me,... ...).
So, I am willing to build 10 last batteries, and than I'll have a brake.

Hi Ludwig. I understand that modifying batteries is taking up too much of your time. I was wondering if you would be interested in selling (at a little more than the original cost) kits of 1 Nokia 1800mAh battery, 1 NTC with 10k, a heatshrink tube and maybe copper tape if it is something that can easily be mailed (i'm guessing it can't), and of course no guarantee that it will work.
-
Received mine yesterday, charged it overnight, seems to work well. Nice to have an even slimmer Zaurus. Thanks, Ludwig!

Hi Ludwig,
Just to let you know I received the 2nd battery today! Somehow it arrived fast today! I really wonder what happened to the 1st battery with the USPS in US ... grrr ... charging it right now! Thanks!
Once the 1st battery appears, I'll have it sent back to you.

Hi there
I've received my battery as well. It works very nicely, thanks a lot

Hi ludwig,
Is the battery suppose to reach 100% after charging? I've tried for one day but after charging, ie the yellow LED goes off, I unplug the AC adapter and the battery level is only 70~75%.
Is this normal?
-
erm ... it just dropped to 41% ... ... and I wasn't using it after charging

I am using the latest Hentges rom 3.5.3 oz. The battery is the one you sent me.
I think I will do a timed battery test later. ie, I'll run the collie without apm switching to suspend, with frontlight on at minimal etc, perhaps play mp3 to get a mileage on the battery.
To be fair, if the mileage is higher than the standard battery, despite erratic battery levels, I can live with it, since battery level detection has never been a strength of the collie. I just hope it does not post a lower usage time!
-
Here's the results of 2~3 tests:
Collie does not last more than 2 hours, running with frontlight. I tried different levels of the frontlight, but they show more or less same amount of runtime.
Each test cycle starts after the battery is fully recharged to 100% and the amber/orange charging light turns off by itself. The battery level consistently drops to 70+% within 1 min.
After half hour, it drops to somewhere in the 40~50% region. Towards 1.5hrs, it is around 10% and shortly after, it displays warning, with < 5% battery life.
ORIGINAL SHARP BATTERY TEST
I am testing out the original battery from SHARP right now. After one hour, it is in the 80% range. Will update more later.
Note that I am not running any MP3 or intensive apps at all. I only have opie-reader running passively. I am not reading it, so there is no scrolling or reading of SD/CF card data at all.
Will retest the hi-cap battery again later. Does not bode well ... is the 1800mAh cell old or used? I cannot understand why it drops to 70+% within a min of charging. Ludwig, any ideas?
-
ok, to be fair to ludwig and the hi-cap battery, I measured the voltage of the battery with a multi-meter tester and it read 4.0v ... that is quite *above* the 3.7v specifications of the battery, while the original SHARP battery read 4.2v when it is at 75% in hentges rom.
Is the battery level for the oz3.5.3/hentges rom drastically confused?
EDIT:
Also, I read somewhere that the backup battery for some collie is flat or old, so it tends to drain the main battery under normal operations, causing lower than usual battery life. Is this true?
-
Ludwig, so what about me?
Sorry for my poor English, may be I didn't understand?
I sent you my battery back, for change, as I wroute above....
(my name is Alexandr Polanski, St.Petersburg/Russia)... Did you recive it?
-
Is the battery level for the oz3.5.3/hentges rom drastically confused?
Possibly, you probably want to ntoe down the voltages which it reports (does the collie have sysfs?) and then work from there (possibly by looking in the kernel).
I'm not sure what changes have been made to the power management code in the OZ 2.4.18 kernel compared to the standard Sharp kernel.
Drop me a line, or start a new thread and I'll see if I can help you out,

Thanks lardman-si, I'll verify the voltages of the standard and hi-cap batteries together with the levels reported in OZ.
I'll prob start a new thread tomorrow .. cheers!

Hi! I just read this thread. I have been wanting to use my 860 with a small battery for the thickness, and this looks great! Are there any batteries left? What guarentee do you give? (AKA. If battery destroys my Z what would you do?)
Thanks!

Yes, there are still 2 batteries.

I am sorry, but the only guarentee I could give you is, that if the battery makes problems, you'll get a new one.
But beleave me... Until now, there was nobody, who killed his Z with my batteries!

Ordered 2 batteries. Took a long time and many tries for one to work more than 15 minutes (!!). It's now performing more or less as expected after days of charge/discharge cycles. The other one has no such luck yet.
I asked for help and finally for a replacement by email - no news. So I think I'll do the same you did and post here.

Its here! (and charging now) Are these 1600 or 1800mAh (or is it the same part either way)? Just want to be sure before I try running duration test comparisons to the Sharp 'big' 1700mAh and I thought I read 'up to 1600' through the heat shrink wrap.
Thanks!

Hi There!
I don't really know it, too... :/
I have bought them as 1800mAh-batteries... they all have the elektronikpart of the 1800ers, but on the paper is written 1600mAh... But I think, it's only the wrong paper (because of the electronic) ...

- Gads! Been longer than I thought since I read this thread.
- Way back when, I expressed interest in a 3000maH (or more! [wink]) battery for the C1000, that would fit in the same space as the C1000 battery. Lauter asked what I'd pay for one of those, and I mentioned I was hoping for a number and we could haggle.
- Unfortunately I've seen no number, though lots of happy new battery owners are certainly encouraging. I also saw the deal on how make your own battery, which looks for all the world like you take a "normal" battery, use gold foil to "rearrange" the contacts to match the Z, toss in a (limiting?) resistor, tape it up, and you're done. Clever, Lauter!
- So I have a couple of points/questions/whatever to toss into the fray:
1. How does one go about discovering what battery will work? Scour the web for battery statistics? Where are the original specs, to know what voltages/amperages are delivered by the original three battery pads?
2. It sounds like you're taking a much deserved rest, Lauter, after a real spate of battery-making. Maybe you dn't want to take on the task of doing a one-off C1000 battery that will likely lead to even more C1000 sales - which will of course take more of your time. I can understand that! I'm just wondering if it's an accurate assesment?
3. If you are willing to do a C1000 battery, I imagine the ultimate cost would be driven by how much the source battery costs. I'm happy with Hiro's default battery, but would still find twice the capacity very attractive, especially now that Cacko has my WiFi working reliably. (grin) But I'm not very interested in just tossing around numbers. I'd think the battery and materials cost, plus some for your time and effort, would be an amenable value. But without researching battery and materials costs, I don't know what that value would be. Would you be willing to arrive at that figure, Lauter, and see where that leads? I'm perfectly capable of figuring out how to build one of these things myself, and have the tools to do it. (shrug) It's a matter of ensuring you may profit by your clever solution while simplifying the process for me at the same time. (happy smile)
- Feel free to "PM" me (here at OESF), or I can try e-mailing you if you prefer. I put this in the public space so other C1000 users can read and see what we're up to. (snicker)
- Thanks for your time...

It looks like this, but it isn't... There is for example no gold foil on the market, that is thick enough to be used for building the batteries... I am gilding the copper tape by my own... Not that cheap.

The "specs" are the specs, that are printed on the original (maxXcell) battery.
3,7 / 3,6 V and 1800mAh
The pins are + , - , and one for the resistor.

I am willing to build 3000mAh-batteries (C1000, c3000, c3100) for 80 Euro (with shipping and conversion rights... so if you don't like it, you send it back and get your money back...). I think, that price is fair.

The batteries in the 6000 are integrated into the back panel of the Z, not like the others where the Z has a seperate back panel to conceal the battery.
That could be an advantage. Since there's no "compartment" limitation, extended size batteries could be built.
There's a couple of plastic tabs that would have to be replicated in order for it to snap in correctly, but I don't know if it would be a huge problem.
There are pictures of the battery here. Maybe Ludwig would let us know if the tab is doable.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001WJ2A...vi=similarities (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001WJ2AQ/102-3245016-5274516?v=glance&n=172282&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance&vi=similarities)
OTOH, if there were no other way to get batteries, I would probably be willing to use sticky tape to keep it in place.
-
Just wanted to let you know I got my battery for my 760 and it works great so far!
It is SOOO nice to actually make my PDA smaller, with more battery life. How many PDA's can actually shrink these days?
I haven't actually done a comparison test to see what the full discharge time is between the original battery and this one is. The truth is that I almost never ran out of power with my original battery. If someone has a suggestion for how to "test" this battery in an at least somewhat scientific way, I will certainly try it. I'm not really sure what app's tax the CPU the most. I don't play MP3's or Videos, mostly just surf the web with BlueTooth and read and write python code.
-
I bought one of Lauter's batteries via PULSTER.de cause I also wanted a charger.
The lifetime of the batt. is good in my C1000, same or only a bit less my original one.
When you receive the batt., well you get a little shock, it's really ugly looking from the outside...but what counts it works in the Z and the ext. charger is also OK with it.
Sorry Ludwig, you've had the same price as Pulster this time. However a 3000mAH I'd still like to have...
-
Well, I hate to say it, but this new battery deffinitely does not have the life of my original battery. For the third time now, I have pulled out my Z, only to find it stone cold dead.
I have actually only run the original battery completely dry about two times in the two years I've had it, and both times were due to OS lockup that caused the Z to fail to auto-suspend.
Any suggestions from anyone? I would like to do a more scientific test before trying to return it. Thanks.
-
That doesn't sound good.
How long does it work, until it was out of energy?
Regards
Ludwig

Yes, I have noticed almost the same now, fully charged, OK, Z shows 100%, working and playing for 2 hours, had 88%, then suspend the Z for exact 9 hours and guess only 63% left and I think in some more hours on standby it'll be fully empty.
This proofs something isn't working right with the re-build battery on standby...
On playing video or games, mp3 it's not that easy to notice any difference to the original accu.
How can I mesure the mAh of the accu ? I start to think it might only have 1200-1400...

Hi Ludwig,
I've sent you a week ago by paypal the money for the 1800 mAh battery, as you told me by email.
I've sent you also my postal address.
Could you please give some feedback by email?
I write this message in the forum because of potential "black holes" in the email system ;-).
Regards,
Rafa.
P.S. My email user is like my OE Forum user, just to help you to find it out.

That doesn't sound good.
How long does it work, until it was out of energy?
Regards
Ludwig

Ok, I did a formal test.
Charged both batteries with Z off until orange light went out.
Unplugged
Powered on.
Set backlight FULL, and auto screen-off and autosuspend to NEVER.
Overclocked.
Started a video with a loop script to play continuously.
Origianl 760 battery (1700mah): 2 hours and 40 minutes until it died. After that I was still able to power it back on and boot up again on the battery.
New battery: 1 hour and 44 minutes until it died. After that it would NOT come back on at all until I plugged it in.
The new battery has a much shorter life than the original. It is supposed to last longer though, right?

Hi!
If the battery isn't working right, please send it back, and you'll get a new one!

Update; finally received the battery yesterday after 1 and half months of waiting.
So I did some simple tests, playing MP3s nonstop on my C860 with volume and screen brightness set at half.
Unfortunately at full charge this new battery (1800 mAh ?) lasted only 1 hr 53 mins, even less than my 2 year old original BL-06 (950 mAh) battery which lasted 2 hrs 8 mins.
So it seems I've received a defective battery too

I got a similar result with my 5500. I don't think these batteries are performing as well as they should, however, it would've cost me considerably more to get hold of a genuine battery, so I'm still fairly happy

Update (for anyone interested):
After my May 7 post (#138) , I immediately emailed Lauter to complain about the battery. He promised to send a replacement that works as advertised, but after a few follow up emails and 1 month later still no battery in sight.
And based on what I've since found out, I suspect the battery I have is not "defective" at all but actually represents the typical performance:
Apparently its "Max 1700mAh" (printed on the sticker), not "1800mAh" as claimed by Lauter in post #117.

But as someone has pointed out in a previous post, 7210 Nokias are using BLD-3 batteries which are rated at only 760mAh.
http://www.nokiausa.com/nokia_accessories/...2224,10,00.html (http://www.nokiausa.com/nokia_accessories/7210/1,2224,10,00.html)
An actual capacity of 760mAh(or slightly less) would match the results I got in my tests.
And searching ebay.de for "maxcell" batteries:
http://search.ebay.de/maxcell_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8 (http://search.ebay.de/maxcell_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8)
Practically all these different maxcell batteries have the same "1700 mAh" printed rating regardless of their physical sizes or phone models. I think we can make some obvious assumptions here.
The "raw" battery is suspect, and the seller is not reliable, so my advice to potential buyers is to look elsewhere for a replacement battery.
Even if you are willing to accept the 760 mAh capacity, what practical use is a battery that can barely last a half-day of normal usage on your C860 Zaurus?
Put your 35 Euros to better use and go buy a reputable brand, eg this Mugen Power battery:
http://www.lionbattery.com/description.php?noproduit=56 (http://www.lionbattery.com/description.php?noproduit=56)
Its not the slim type, but at least you know you're getting the correct capacity.
Alternatively search in Amazon.com, from time to time you may find sellers for the slim battery:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000645V...glance&n=172282 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000645V4/ref=pd_rhf_p_1/102-4416572-8092954?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=172282)
And for people who are happy to pay 35 Euros for a 760mAh battery, I'll sell you mine at half price

Hey Rokugo!
You got a replacement battery!? And I gave you the first one (that isn't workin so well) too, for you're long time of waiting. So what's the problem?!
Sometimes they don't have 1800mAh, but 1700 (depends on the batteries, I get). That's right. Sorry for that. But I wrote in the forum, that they last about 1600-1800mAh.
The part with you're Nokia batteries is wrong... They don't last as long, as the max batteries. That's the reason, why lots of persons buy max batteries for their Nokia mobile phones.
And you could see, that they are not as bad, as you think, because the most useres do like my batteries.

Ludwig
