I was pointed to conics.net by someone on this forum? is it a fairly reputable site? Why are the prices so much lower, than say streamlinecpus, or dynamism? Not to offend anyone who works for them(if anyone does) but their site doesn't look overly professional, so I was just curious.

Search these forums for conics and you'll find tons of feedback from people who purchased from them.

I just received an order for some accessories from them for my C1K. No problems, paid with paypal, fast service and I hadn't even bought the C1K from them.
FWIW,

I just purchased the Picsel Browser for Zaurus from them. Paid last Saturday, and it showed up the next Friday. Nice and quick! Especially going from Japan to New York.

Them and price japan are asian companies exporting directly to you in the US. Streamlinecpus and Dynamism are american companies that import the Z and provide english conversion, US power adapters, and other stuff. All provide a 12 month warranty and all have good feedback in the forums. If you are looking for very good customer support, then the american companies are the way to go. If you are looking for the cheapest, then go with the japanese companies.
-
so, do price japan and conics translate to english? Other thoughts?
-
I don't know about pricejapan (I kind of doubt it), but I believe conics may do a rudimentry conversion (localization switch) at your request.

just received my C1K from them today (only 4 days, got the item before the tracking number! )
after a extensive look-through of the OS, i only found the dreaded boxes in one place (a something in netfront... i forget what)
they do a nice conversion, and provide you with a US power adaptor (use the one OUTSIDE of the box... it has the correct voltage)
i'm very pleased with them, so far
-
ok, anyone have a reason to choose them over streamlinecpus?
-
Just got my C1K from conics. Very quick service and i forgot to ask for an english conversion but it was done anyway. The power cord I got seems to be from a PSP. I remember some discussion about their compatability on these forums before. It certainly seems to work fine.
The C1K is amasing although since i don't have a CF wifi card yet it is hard to do all that much with it. I can't get usb networking to work with either the OpenZaurus or pdaXrom roms and can't flash back to the Sharp rom without a 256 meg card (atm i only have a 128meg card) so it's worth getting all your accessories at the same time!
I'd recommend conics to anyone looking for a cheap entry to the world of Zaurii. If you can afford to buy from the US importers the extra service and warrenty may reduce the worry factor but im happy to spend the saved money on accessories.

Do any of the sellers sell new(by that I mean unused) C7/8 series?

these models are discontinued

I thought the 5500 was discontinued as well? Are the C7/8 series better liked, therefore there aren't as many new ones laying around? How about refurbs?

I too ordered from Conics. Absolutely excellent service, I was itching to get it but after they shipped it took about a week total. Very professional handling of my product in order to translate it to English which they did perfectly fine, and they gave me the USB host cable and 2 power plugs all for much less than dynamism. What more can you ask for honestly? Dynamism charges a huge margin that conics doesn't seem to, and it's because of what was said, to order from Conics, you have to convert the $$ to yen yourself and buy directly from the jap company pretty much. This involves fees and such that bring the price much closer (but not quite) to dynamism. I'd prefer to buy from Dynamism if I had money to burn but I already paid nearly $900 total.. I'll save money where I can on such a big purchase ;-)

Hello all,
ok, so this isn't the first time people say the site's a bit messy and looks crappy
after taking a kind of poll on our order form for the past month or so, we have been working on a new shopping cart site (99% of people wanted it), so that might look and behave more to your liking ?
thanks for the kind words everyone, and I better get some sleep now so I can ship out some more zaurus later in the morning!
g'nite (4AM in Japan now )
regards,
-Brett

I bought a C1K from Conics too, in March 2005.
Paid w PayPal and there was no problem - the initial price estimation was very close.
I preferred to go with Conics for two reasons mainly:
1. it was well 'reviewed' in these forums.
2. considering what I got, it seemed like a good balance between price and choice of accessories: the USB host cable and the PSP power adapter (110-240V)
The service was excellent, the website was clear enough for me and the email was very prompt considering the time zone difference.
It took less than a week from Japan to US, but I had to wait a day because of the post office...
Brett did the english conversion and that was all I needed to get started the first day - other than recharging the battery of course. I just didn't want to wait to read any more, do the conversion myself etc. Plenty of time for that after the initial excitement.
It is my first Z after all...
microsoft/linux,
personally I chose them over Streamline (in addition to the reasons above) for the fact that C1Ks were not in stock at the time (pre-order) and I knew Brett had a history in these forums - no offense meant to the Streamline guys. I also looked a lot at conics.net when I was trying to decide if I wanted to buy one or not.
Overall, I was very satisfied with the service and I would recommend Conics without hesitation.

Hello
I also would like to give a little feedback on my experience with conics.net.
I live in Switzerland and ordered a C3000. For me the story went like this:
23. June: Order placed
24. June: Quote received, sent money 1 minute later ;-)
--- Weekend ---
28. June: Message that parcels have been shipped
30. June: Power adapter arrives
1. July: C3000 arrives
Amazing! Two days from Japan to Switzerland which is almost half way around the globe. At the same time i ordered a game from Amazon Germany (Germany is a neighbour country of Switzerland) which took one week from shipping confirmation to my mailbox!
Also, the goods were very well wrapped. The cardboard box was quite worn-out from the transport but it was well closed with tape. Inside i found the original packaging of the unit, separated from the cardboard box by air chambers.
It's true that their website is not very streamlined but in the end i found all information (which is not true for some of the nicer looking websites out there).
I also liked that they don't have hundreds of products. This gave me the feeling that they really know about the Zaurii.
Well, i would certainly buy from them again. Gratulations Conics.
Greetings,
Rince

More feedback...
I live in the US (Las Vegas, NV).
* Fri 24 June: Filled out the quote/order form for a C3100 late my time. (PDT)
* Sat 25 June: Received the invoice early AM
* Sat 25 June: Sent payment.
* Sat 25 June: Received confirmation of payment and note that item would ship on Monday.
* Tue 28 June: Received shipment tracking number.
* Sat 1 July: Received Zaurus!
7 days from payment to receipt. Pretty impressive! the only "gotcha" if there is one, is that the price was slightly higher than the website ($20 more). Not trying to stir up trouble, but just a bit of "full disclosure"
The box arrived in great shape, the Zaurus works fine so far. I'd recommend them too...
