Title: Community Based Zaurus Themes/wallpapers!
Post by: Cresho on June 16, 2005, 08:54:24 pm
I know we have some artists.  I was thinking hard on this one.  Is anybody interested having a section (zaurusthemes.org) for the zaurus users so you can display your artwork?

I know that the sl series and the c series have issues with the wallpaper going from landscape to normal and back to landscape.

some issues.

of course there is going to be a section on the site but...

1.  were would you like to upload the files to?
  a.  zaurusthemes.org?
  b.  here
  c.  other.

the file that you make will also need a description section- that way people can know who the original artist was.

1.  should the file sent be in a zip file containing the image and a text file for info?

2.  or should the image be placed at zaurusthemes.org with the information of the artist displayed at the bottom of the image?

1A Uploading to one central place is better if you have the room.

2- An image placed with a small snippet giving the author credit. I am a right mouse click and save kinda guy. If I have to go through the trouble of unzippping it someplace, it'll just add more work and be that much more difficult when I am surfing for wallpapers on my Zaurus.

My 2 cents.

Cresho,

may I suggest to have two versions of the background image, one tailored for portrait and one for landscape. Using the same image (if its not a pattern)  usually makes it look out of place when rotated. If you use Plasterer, it picks two different images depending on the rotation and displays the appropriate image.

Did you see my os linux background?  Of course i did not design it but i Made it work for portrait and landscape mode.  It works both ways 8).  The upload section i am trying to create (havent had any time) was for the community to add their custom backgrounds in where everyone else can benefit from just like the one i fixed but i never added it to the section just because it works for the specific icons in os linux.

The taskbar and tabs are embedded in one of the files within zstyle or etc. in a form of a code but i can't tell you exactly cuz i am at work.  it is not an image placer such as png or anything.  I tried fooling the code with gradient colors but that is all i get...gradient colors.  I am working on actually forcing the tab themes to place 4 specific images for just one tab and since i am not efficient or knowlegable enough to create such codes, it is taking me longer than expected especially now that i havent even created an upload section for the zaurusthemes. PLus.....no time.  even then, i am trying to create more wallpapers that will work in both landscape and portrait mode and i have only created oslinux wallpaper and its only in that ipk file for download under themes section.

even then........I am creating a grid that i feel is the best layout for someone who wants to create a wallpaper to use as a guide to actually place images.  the "stuff that works section i am working on will have 10 such images specifically for the debian addon for the z.  YOu hear that meanie?  as soon as you get that ipk jumbo file up, you will have your very own section were debian files work for both landscape and portrait

I think this is a topic that needs to be re-addressed. I feel themes are a person's PDA form of expression, something more of the PDA owners' personality than eyecandy.
Other platforms have various PDA theme sites out ther like pocketpcthemes.com and facerthemes.com, that have huge amounts of free material for the PDA users. I'm all for this and I even willing to learn some new software to create some new themes.
