Title: Battery Switch Is There For...

So,
in the 5500 the battery switch turns off the unit. Useful in case of system hanging and such.
In c1k the switch, FWIK, just prevents your Z fom booting when it is in open position hand holds the lid in its place, is that right? or is it just me (and my Z)?  
Then in case of c1k not wanting to turn off after hanging, is hard reset the only way out? (Besides taking out battery   )

there is a reset button beside the battery.
Press it to restart when Z freezed..

yes, I knew that, it was only that I don't find the battery switch really useful then.
It could be a power switch as it is in 5500, it is a matter of design I don't understand.
I don't see why they changed that.

Even on the 5500 the battery switch is just a software switch and it depends on the kernel how the system deals with it. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same on the C7x0 models.

Oh, thanks!.
That's new to me. Then what changed is probably just software, not hardware.
I still find useful to use the switch to turn off the unit, no need to open battery lid...
It is not that I'm that lazy! (or is it...?)

Absolutely. Note though that it shouldn't be hard to enable SYSRQ in your favourite kernel. That way you can reboot with a magic key combination even if userland is stuck. Since we added SYSRQ to the C7x0 kernels, I seldomly have to do the battery thing again.
