Title: Elementary Question
Post by: hans on June 17, 2005, 02:29:49 pm
Suppose that the C750 is in a frozen state.  How does one try to do a "soft reset"?

One additional question:

Sometimes my Zaurus (C750) freezes when the WiFi signal becomes very weak.  Has anyone else had this problem?  If so, have you found a solution?  I'm using an AmbiCom WL1100C-CF, and my C750 is using the original Sharp ROM.  (I do have X/Qt running, but I'm using the original Qtopia network configuration utility.)

Hmm.  I still don't know how to do a soft reset, so I tried a hard reset.  I was told, for hard reset, to do the following:

Unplug AC
Unlock battery switch
Remove battery for at least 5 seconds
Replace battery
Lock battery switch
Press "On" button

When it came back to life, surprise!  my data was still there.  So, it seems that I accidentally performed a soft reset rather than a hard reset.  Can anyone tell me if the above protocol is actually the soft reset protocol?  If so, then what is the hard reset protocol?

The Cxx0 and CxK zaurus store the system on flash, so you don't loose any data when doing a reset (hard or soft).

To do a soft reset

1. Switch battery lock to "unlocked" position
2. Hold FN+Home key and switch battery lock back to locked
3. If everything was successful, the screen will blank
4. Use power button to turn it back on

Yep works for Cacko on the C760 and C860 (at least versions 1.21 ans 1.22 did anyway) I think it is hardcoded as it worked ecen when qtopia was shut down and I was only running console.

Other keyboard shortcuts that are built in (ie don't need keyhelper etc)

D+M during power on to get to maintanence menu
D+B during power on to get to "rescue" mode linux - boots of hidden flash partition

We all know that holding down the OK key while powering on the unit gives the flash menu, but you can do the same thing by holding down the OK key while rebooting too.

The Fn+Home+battery switch doesn't work on the C1000, but the others do.

Anyone else got any shortcuts, keycombos?
