Title: Leather Case For Sl-c 1000/3000
Post by: daniel3000 on June 21, 2005, 02:52:33 am
Hello,

FYI, I just found this item:
http://www.geekstuff4u.com/product_info.php?products_id=171 (http://www.geekstuff4u.com/product_info.php?products_id=171)

Does anyone know this case already? Is it recommendable?

That's the case I have with mine, on the whole I like it and feel it's protecting my Zaurus and extending it's lifespan. I would never keep my Z without a case.

The only criticisms I have are minor...

1) The case makes this already slightly thick PDA even thicker, so putting it in some pockets is nigh on impossible.

2) The magnetic press-stud catch should have been on the other piece of leather. Where it is now, when you open up the Zaurus, the strip of leather with the catch on has a tendency to curl over onto the keyboard or screen when the case is open. However, you can fold the case right round and use the catch to hold it in place that way.

All in all, I would recommend this case to a fellow Z owner.

Awesome case!

I have been using this case from day one. My boyfriend brought it back from Japan for me, PDAIR Case. I paid $43.00 for it. Look around you might find it cheaper. I think I saw it at shopbrando for less.

I agree about the thickness of the case. I removed the insert since I do not leave my screen in PDA mode when closing the case. This makes the case a lot more confortable and not as thick.

The quality of the case is great. It does not look cheap by any means.

Totally agree, that insert is a bit of a waste of effort, I took that out because I could see myself losing it.

I also agree the general quality of the case is very high. The thickness of the leather does seem to imply that the case will last.

I totally recommend a good case. I used to have a 5500 and that looked pretty untouched when I sold it on, but a colleague of mine, his 5500 was never in a case and it was scratched and dented and looking poor, very quickly.

What's the thought process on this? That's one thing I like about clamshells, no need for a case..

Since '95 HP200lx  -->  Nokia Communicator --> Zaurus (with nary a case)

Hello my friend,

a case is nice if the (clamshell) computer is carried around in a bag or case together with other things which could scratch it, and/or if the case can hold accessories you need often (memory cards...).
I admit I have not used a case for my 200LX in the past 7 years, except when on vacation, the case holding a PCMCIA modem and spare batteries then. But the Zaurus, at least while it is still a lot worth and the only unit I have (no spare units yet - I still have about 8-10 200LXs at home, enough spares in case one gets damaged), I rather use a case to protect it.

Kind of a strange question, but does anyone know of a good SL-C3000 case that is *not* made of leather? Querent is vegan and tries to avoid the use of animal hides. (Flames to /dev/null, honest inquries about veganism welcome by e-mail, not here.   ) Thanks for any pointers.

I bought two of these are Target for $5.99 each and added velcro to one and snaps to the other. I posted them in another thread but here they are again.

The are vinyl, not leather and I put the Z in backwards so that I'm not pressing against the display when fastening the velcro or snaps. It fits snug with no room for anything else, but it provides good protection, short of being crushed. They are actually intended to be used for index cards.

Perfect! Got one today. They also have a matching wallet that's just right for holding my CF wifi card and  USB cables. Thanks!

tms,
You're welcome. If you use velcro with the extra strength adhesive on the outside of the case be careful. I was trying to remove some of the 3 inch strip I originally installed and ended up peeling part of the material which the case is made of, off. I went to target today and picked up another one. I think I'll go back tomorrow and look for the smaller wallet that you mentioned, as I have a couple of extra cards and also an extra battery. It would be nice to have a matching accessory container.

Off topic, but what kind of CF wifi card are you using, and what ROM are you running if you don't mind me asking? Did you have to install drivers or tweak the kernel in any way?

Thanks,
gdog

D-Link DCF-660W, with Sharp Rom. No extra drivers or tweaking needed, it just works.    I ordered it from conics.net along with the Z.
