I'd like to upgrade the ROM on my new/refurb SL-5500 from V2.38 to V3.13. The Sharp links I can find are broken. I have one link which is working, but only the ROM upgrade and the PC software are available. It appears from my reading at the Sharp site that an SL-5500 Applications package should be installed after the ROM upgrade. Is this Apps package the same for ROM V3.0, V3.10, and V3.13?
One more: the Sharp site seems to imply that I can perfrom the ROM upgrade (to V3.1 at least) with the SL-5500 docked and sync'ed to a PC. A link I found here, though, says that a CF card must be used. Help?
Thanks for any pearls of wisdom, guidance, suggestions...

There is a zipped copy of the 3.13 CD in the downloads section that should have all you need for software, no worries about having or not having the apps sharp intended for 3.13.
As for the upgrade via cradle, you can do that with 2.38 --> 3.13 just fine. But you can't flash any other ROM without a CF card. Given the fact however that if you mess up a OSPACK install you brick your Z I would reccomend the CF card option to remove a possible failure point.

I apologize for my denseness, but I cannot find the downloads section of this board - any hints?
So... if I use a CF card to upgrade the ROM, it's a safer option? Is there guidance somewhere on how to proceed with the CF card ROM upgrade? I wasn't kidding when I used the word nimrod in the post
And finally: are there any huge issues associated with ROM 3.13 vs 2.38? All Sharp software functions? Does most home-brew software written for the Sharp ROM function? How about tkc software?
Thanks for your help. This board is a great - and active - resource.

You can download the ROMs from here:

For the flashing process check here:

About 3.13 x 2.38, I can say that I flashed directly from a old SharpROM to v3.13 and found all the same functionalities with minnor enhancements. You will need to install Hancom packages and others things but nothing more than this.
About tkc software they seems to be stable and with good UI but you have to pay for this.

This link still works and has the instructions... the files to d/l are at the bottom of the page:
http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate5.asp (http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate5.asp)
OESF does however have all the files... just in case the link would vanish.
