Title: Think I've Killed My Sl4 - Help With Jtag
Post by: Mark H on June 24, 2005, 02:55:48 am
Got a Simpad SL4 a few days ago and was trying to put 0.91 Opensimpad on.

I got as far as getting the blupdater loader flashed and putting the image on a Cf in the PCMCIA slot. The screen went white and stayed that way for 1 hour. I reset the Simpad but now it will not power off and I get a string of garbage charaters when I connect to the serial port and run serload or minicom. Looks like I need to find out how to use JTAG.

From the wiki http://opensimpad.org/wiki/index.php/Docs/JTAGHowTo (http://opensimpad.org/wiki/index.php/Docs/JTAGHowTo) there is a lot of detail but what I'm unclear about is what do I need to do with J10? It does not mentioned on the cable diagram or in the text.

Can someone help and is JTAG my only option to bring my Simpad back to life.

Thanks,

Mark

You are getting garbage because your serial settings are wrong. You need to connect @ 115200-8N1, XON/XOFF flow control. You SIMPad is not dead... yet  But I agree with you, the  SIMPad  flashing process is horrifying experience ...

Thanks albertr that did the trick. My Simpad is back from the dead

I the re-flashed the root file system with "copy hda1:/simpad-rootfs.jffs2 root"

Found more detail about this problem over on the old messageboard http://opensimpad.org/opensimpad-forum/viewtopic.php?t=835 (http://opensimpad.org/opensimpad-forum/viewtopic.php?t=835)
