Hi everyone,
I've recently (re-)installed OZ 3.5.3/OPIE for Poodle (5600), along with the packages opie-dasher (ver 1.2.0-r0) and opie-dasher-english (ver 1.2.0-r0) from the openzaurus feed. They installed to a VFAT SD card without complaint, and after ipkg-link-ing, restarting OPIE and even restarting the Zaurus there is no sign of Dasher (apart from via "ipkg list_installed", etc.).
Do I need to install something else, or possibly edit some config file to allow new input methods?
Thanks,
manyon

They installed to a VFAT SD card without complaint,
They may not have complained... but their not working either. You can not successfully create symlinks on a FAT filesystem. For your apps installed to an SD-card to work properly you should use an EXT2 format on the card.

As you say, symlinks won't work, but otherwise apps install to VFAT cards without problem; in all cases I've seen so far, an "unable to create symlink blah to blah" warning appears when such links are part of the installation (most commonly this occurs for libraries where *.so.2 links to (eg.) *.so (or is it vice-versa?)).
ie. packages installed to VFAT cards only have problems if they contain symlinks as part of the .ipk file. Dasher doesn't...

edit: The same thing happens when I install Dasher to root on the Zaurus; can't find it anywhere afterwards.

You sure? I seem to remember that input methods use libs which tend to be symlinks as you mentioned.

The files are installed without problem:
root@poodle:/# files opie-dasher
Package opie-dasher (1.2.0-r0) is installed on root and has the following files:
/opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqdasher.so
/opt/QtPalmtop/share/dasher/alphabet.xml
root@poodle:/# files opie-dasher-english
Package opie-dasher-english (1.2.0-r0) is installed on root and has the following files:
/opt/QtPalmtop/share/dasher/training_english_GB.txt
However, the application/input method itself doesn't seem to show up. I would expect it to be in the "Handwriting/Multikey/Pickboard" menu, but it isn't. Do I need to add it to a config file or something to make it appear there?

I have also installed Dasher on a SL-5500 and have the same problem with it
not showing up in the input selection. Have tried reload icons, and a full shutdown
and reboot, and a reinstall ,but nothing seems to help. Have check the plugin folder and
it has a link in the same folder as keyboard, pickboard plugins.
