Title: What is a good price for a C7xx or C8xx in Japan?
Post by: Anonymous on January 28, 2004, 11:02:29 pm
I have a friend going to Japan next week and he is willing to buy me a Zaurus while there. What is a good price to aim for over there. I know PocketPenguin.com charges $550 for a C760 I believe. So I am assuming it should be less than that in Japan.  How much is a good price for a 750, 760, 860?
Also, I know the screen quality is supposed to be amazing as well as the keyboard. Is this true?  How is everything else? How is the battery run time? Comparable to the 5600? Can you run most zaurus programs on it? Can you install most ROMs on it? Can you use most hardware on it?  Can a newbie, non techy like myself use it? Which version do you recommend? Thanks.

Right now the lowest price for SL-C860 is around 53500 Japanese Yen. You need to pay %5 tax. Maybe another $10 dollars comission. So the total is around $540.

The main chain stores are still selling the C860 at 69000 yen and the C760 (where they are still in stock) at 64000, the C750 are going at 54000.

The lowest price that Guest gave in the above post are sometimes only available for bulk orders from online shops - some of them have decidely dodgy reputations. If you shop around akihabara - Electronic Heaven in Tokyo - then you will probably find them in some of the smaller shops somewhere between the 2 extremes - hopefully closer to lower limit

You can do a lot better than shop prices on the web (usually)
www.bestgate.net
www.rakuten.co.jp
are two price seach engines. Just type in the model number, and even if you don\'t read Japanse you should be able to pick out the price in yen.

Currently the 750 is going for 44,800
The 760 for 61,800
(+5% tax, and in this case perhaps 1-2000 yen shipping)

Correction and tip:
I posted the previous post, and the prices are too high, they vary day-by-day: a C750 can be had for under 40,000 yen, and an C860 for 54,000 yen, from the web. The C760 is about the same price as the C860.

The tip:
Go to www.bestgate.net (usually the cheapest of the 2 search engines). Search for the model you are interested in e.g. C860.
You will get a few products listed, one of which is the Zaurus. In that row in the table click one of the two buttons on the left. This will take you to a list of all shops that have the product. Click on the price column head to sort by price and print out that page. If you take this printout to an electrical shop and show it to them, even the big ones like Ninomiya will lower the price and possibly match it.
For example, I got Ninomiya to offer me a C860 at 59,950 yen, the price on the sticker in the shop was 69,000 yen. Quite a difference, but not all the way to the internet price on my printout (54,800).

Has anybody ordered from any of these random Japanese vendors?  I\'d really rather order from one that someone has had a good experience with, but I\'m also interested in what prices people are finding/buying these at.

MUCH appreciated-
