Title: 860 Vs. Sl1000
Post by: chayimkirshen on June 27, 2005, 08:04:59 am
Well,

It appears that the 860 is only $50 cheaper than the 1000, so I'm looking for experiences with both.  Which one should I buy?  The only difference appears to be that the 3100 has a usb port and 416mhz processor instead of 400.  Am I missing something here?
What are the impressions?  I'll probably run openzaurus or pdaXrom depending on the zaurus I get.  So any help in choosing would be great!

thanks,

Without a doubt - the C1000 - between that and a 860.

The C1000 also has a USB host port which the 860 lacks.
Plus the cool Balck color, the faster processor etc makes the C1000 a better deal right now.

Of course if you want to spend a few hundres more, the C3100 will also give you a 4GB Hard disk sace and more Flash memory.

860 - slightly smaller in size (especially with smaller battery installed) and all main roms are geared to it.

1000 - usb host, better keyboard (so I've read), more efficient cpu (better with power management?) and all the main developers are starting to get them (new development).  They are also newly made compared to the 860 which is out of production (so unopened ones have been sitting on a shelf).

No doubt the 1000 is the way to go.  All your favourite roms will eventually be made for it.

I have c1000 at work and to me the keyboard seems to better as the 860 keyboard. I never saw a 860, but a 760 once for about five minutes (I missed to measure the seconds   ). Can someone who knows both devices well confirm this?
Cheers,
Sam

I had a C750 which I sold off. As far as I know - all the three previous models - the C750, C760, C860 had the same keyboard.

The C1000 keyboard is definitely better than the C860 (or C750 as I know directly).
The C860 keyboards were film based in that the keys were attached to a film kind of base and so when you pressed on eky, the area around it would also deoress slightly (not to much that another key got pressed).
But the C1000 keyboard is more solid and each key raises up from this solid base, so it also feels more tactile.

But typing speed wise - i dont think it makes any difference, since the layout is nearly the same.

I would completely agree to the point that the C1000's keyboard is better - except for the really annoying power button.

It was a real pain in the ass in the beginning when holding the Z in my hand and accidently pushing the button with my  thumb, the Z shutting down and me not knowing   what was going on.
