Title: Battery from my 5500
Post by: hitch on July 20, 2003, 02:55:01 pm
I\'m sure you all have read that the 760 comes with the extended battery and large cover, and possibly that the small battery from the 5500 will work.    I\'ll mention this because I was never really sure if the 5500 battery would work from reading all the posts without modification, but it fits great and the included cover for the standard ( small 5500 battery ) battery allows the entire unit to be much smaller.  I also picked up a spare at Office Depot (clearance for $13) so when I want it as small as possible I use the small battery and cover, fits more compactly in the pocket.  The extended battery cover is not one of those accessories you will want to carry around unless well protected, it would snap quite easily, so If you are going to need the extended battery you should probably leave it on.

I haven\'t seen the small battery for the 5600 specifically, but I do use the spare battery for my 5500 in the 760 with the small battery cover, and it makes the 760 very svelt.   I\'ll see if I can\'t post some pictures of the differneces between the batteries tonight/tomorrow.

too funny, no worries.  I just read thru you post again and thought I was going crazy.  I didn\'t see 5600 this time, then I noticed the edited note.

Yeah, I don\'t much like the small battery in the 760.  At first when I put it in, I thought the 760 felt a little flimsy.  No don\'t get me wrong, I know the 760 isn\'t flimsy at all, I guess I\'m just used to the hefty feel with the big battery and cover.  Also the small batty drained very quickly while using wifi, even with the screen dimmed.

Hi all, just chiming in with a \"Ummm...why is that...?\"
Specifically: If you have to use the special cover to hold the \"extended\" battery in...why didn\'t they just make the WHOLE COVER into one big battery? (e.g. Have a cutout so that you can mate the battery terminals correctly. I think you could more than make up for the loss of 1cm of battery area by using all the air space available inside the cover now!) Just imagine: Wi-Fi...online...ALL DAY

You hit the nail on the head!  I can\'t figure out why they decided to waste all that space with the large cover.  That said, I rarely use my 5500 batteries in my 760.  I just use the large batteries, as they seem to last much, much longer (especially when using wifi)!  And since I have two large batteries, and two small (5500) batteries... I\'m pretty much set for on the go play/wifi/whatever...

Hahaha! Must be nice! I imagine if I applied myself, I could probably find a second extended battery pretty cheaply up in Akihabara. But that still nags me...\"Why...WHY?!?!\"
It\'s not really an issue right now: I\'m holding off on my CF WiFi purchase until I can get the new Sandisk combo 128MB+WiFi card ordered at the store where I have a bunch of \"points\" saved up. If the price is similar to the states, it will make my out-of-pocket only about $30.

It\'s the Sandisk SDWCFB-128, sometimes -128R.  There are plans afoot for a 256MB version, too...
