Well, to make a long story short, I discontinued the wrong mirror site
but its restored now.

I'm just back for the weekend and then will disappear again. Damn, I hate getting on the plane but at least the Zaurus is great for the plane trips

hey meanie.....

I just want to say thanks for posting all that information!

there are actually 6 things that really is helping me but the one that really did it for me was the swap partition program.  I been looking for something like that for a long time.

you see, i have a 4mp camera and when i use visualq to try and edit the file, my zaurus says i run out of memory.  i installed qtopia-memoryapplet_1.1.1a_arm.ipk and did the swap partition on the sd drive.  the nice thing about this little software is that you can create swap partitions and disable and enable them so you wont wear down the sd card.  after setting a swap file and enabling the sucker, i was able to edit very large images.  I was about to sell my c1000 for another zaurus cuz i was pissed off i couldnt open big files.

dude! that is a saver!

still looking at your page trying..

hey maybee you can help!  i want to play the games on the z upside down snesx so the navigation button would be on the left side, the screen is upside down, and i am holding the z updside down so which makes the image right side up.  how can i tell snes znester to invert the screen so it can be updside down?  i been reading up on the sdl documents, znester documents, even came up with some commands which are nill or none existing which i am down to my last straw.

Now I have kismet working...another thanks man.

Also try playing with atty's sdl lib. It seems to have more options and also utilises the bvdd drivers.

I'd just like to say - WOW !
I had no idea the usb support on the 3000 was that versatile.
You've got more stuff attached to your Z that than I have on my laptop :-)

Just how large a bag do you need to carry all that stuff around ?
I make do with a small digi camera bag for my 860 with my sync/charge cable, spare battery, wifi card, cf sony memory card adaptor and a small custom turned pen with nasa spece pen refill - all in the battery/mem card compartment.

And that can get in the way hanging off my belt.
How much of that stuff (keyboard, mouse etc) do you regularly cart around with you ?

well, I don't carry everything with me all the time. I got a locker in my office where some of the stuff is stored. Usually, I just carry my Z around in my camera bag with 1 spare SD card, 1 cf wifi card and my P to GO USB power cable. Sometimes I take the Belkin Stylus along but most the time, the Pentopia is sufficient.
When I travel, I just shove everything into my backpack but usually leave it in my hotel room.

man, I just printed out my website so I have a hardcopy of the stuff to follow for my C3100 and turns out that there's more than a hundred pages altogether. I am thinking of revamping it a bit to add C3100 stuff to it as well and then make a pdf version of the website available for download. It could almost be a mini book.

meanie, it would be a good thing but........

for the ones who like to store stuff like myself, i copied your website as a html.  i loaded that in my cd image folder and created a link to my start page which consists of webbased drug guides along with some usefull linux resources on sd.

looking forward in reading more of your book.

Well, from my own experience: Maintaining a HTML web page is tourble enough. If you care about converting it to other formats after each update (except if you do it automatically), would mean so much work that you finally end up being frustrated about every planned web page update.

That's why I like tha HTML export features of Zaurus-based outliners so much :-)

Hey Meanie,
Can't wait for you to get some c3100 stuff out there. You can probably figure out some things that I couldn't. (I'm not exactly a linux newbie, but not an expert either).

Almost every thing worked as in your site. Just a few goofy things like:
1. smbmounter doesn't work. Might have something to do with the different partitioning scheme on the c3100.
2. USB keyboards work but are mapped as Japanese keyboards so stuff like ":" and "_" are in hard to find places. Probably need a new keymap or something.
3. automounter doesn't work. Probably the same issue as smbmounter?
4. qflashplayer doesn't work. Not sure why.

Everything else seems to work the same as described on your wonderful site. I used your instructions to install jaen, X/Qt, Pocketworkstation, Gaim, Kismet, firefox, OpenOffice, vpnc, vnc, irk,  and many more.

I'm glad you are getting a new z. The community really needs a great resource like you! Great work!

Rob

Meanie,

I have copied your website in to a Word file. I called the file "C3000Bible", and I read it often. It is the most useful source I have for my C3100!!!

It would be wonderful to have a version in PDF, with more C3100 stuff in it!

Thank you for all your hard work on this!

The first PDF version of the guide is now available at http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/book/ (http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/book/)
I will update the PDF file each time I update the html pages. I have written a perl script to automatically combine the html pages for pdf conversion

Thank you Meanie!

Could you please also add at the very end the section related to XQt and Debian ( [a href=\"http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/jumbo/xqtjumbo.html]http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/jumbo/xqtjumbo.html[/url] )?

Since that section is not fully covered under "customization", that would provide extra information for some people (including myself).

Thank you again.

i have some question
what is the speed of running debian application without pocketworkstation?
is it faster than running under pocketworkstation?

after reading about flashing the Z with a new image containing thoese library, i have a thought that you may create a new rom which supports these modified debian package(maybe bulid on top of cacko)
but i know you have so less time

Hey, I was looking at your site, and I saw that you picked up a couple of difference Mini-A usb plugs. One of which was a iRiver one.

I live in Japan and since my last exword has just died, I have decided that I need a dictionary with true writing support to make sure my written Japanese improves.

I was looking at the c1000, until I found out that the nice multimedia dictionary doesn't come with it, making me rather sad. Any comments on this at all?

But now what I really am surprised about was the lack of min-A in Japan. I can not find it anywhere physically. I spent a day walking around Akihabara looking for it and did not find a single store that had it, which you can bet shocked me. Any ideas?

I don't have a c1000 so you probably might like to ask someone who has one. It lacks the thing that is important to me, space. My C3100 has 9GB with the extra CF and SD
damn, I cannot believe it. I always thought akihabara has anything you want. Last time I was there I was flabbergasted and shocked at what it had to offer. I have seen quite a few different photos of Japanese people's Zaurus with mini-a cables attached to them and all the cables looked so differently, some just had a plug-adaptor and some had very short cables, even shorter than the iriver one, so I always thought it would be easy to buy one in Japan since there was such a big variety.
Usually, Australia is the last one to get anything  so since we have mini-a cables here, I assumed there were at least a dozen different ones to choose from in Japan.
I thought akihabara was electronics paradise

Thx, I just had my friend order me one from the iriver site in America, he'll bring it to me when he comes to Japan in 2 months, along with a gig sd card.

But back to akihabara being disapointing, I've on several occasions not been able to find something, or find that it is much more expensive in akiba, it's strange since I speak Japanese and have been with Japanese people who know the area quite well.

Thx for the help, and you have an awesome site!

thanks, i spent quite some time for the contents of the site but it has paid off. i was able to ramp up and customise my 3100 very quickly.

i am surprised you didnt order the cable from the iriver site in japan or go to the iriver store in shibuya

Did you try Mobile Senka? They run this site (http://www.wolf.ne.jp/) which has the USB host cable (http://www.wolf.ne.jp/syuhen/pocketusbhost.html) listed. It's a little on the expensive side, though.

I'm sure it's available at other places as well, but the thing with Akihabara is that you really have to know where to look.

Your site is the best man!

One thing I can't seem to get working is swap file activated at bootup.

I tried uncommenting rc.local and putting the command
Code: [Select]
swapon /hdd3/swapfile in there, but it doesn't seem to work.

Also, adding the entry to /etc/fstab doesn't seem to work either.

Either way when I boot and run
Code: [Select]
free or
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/swaps or
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/meminfo i see no swap active.

I always have to manually perform the swapon command

I have a C3100 with sharp rom and stock kernel.
