Title: Mime Types Handling On The Zaurus
Post by: daniel3000 on July 01, 2005, 07:58:37 am
Hello,

how can I change the assignment of aplications to file types (MIME types) on the SL-C3000?

PDF is tied to the Opera browser, but should rather open QPDF, in my opinion.

There are other bindings I'd like to change as well.

Thank you
daniel

Try searching the forums for "MIME" there are numerous posts on this issue from the last 2 years or so

Hi daniel3000,

See an explanation on how to assign files to any software you want on Meanie's great website (http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom.html#association) Look for "File associations".

Good luck

It's even on the FAQ/HOW-TO here (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=File_Associations)

In addition to all of the good information above Daniel make sure the permissions on your files allow you to save the settings you make in Opera. I use a root account for a lot of what I do on my Z and if memory serves I ended up creating a situation where the files were owned by root but when running Opera as zaurus the changes would not "stick". I changed them to be wide open, and from that point on my settings stayed intact.

Thanks for all the feedback!
Assigning the correct MIME type applicatoins assignments and deleting redundant ones, I have made the Zaurus an even more powerful and convenient tool!
