Hello Folks,
Firstly apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I have been lurking as a guest for a couple of months (nearly bought the SL-C3000 end of March) and have just returned from Japan with a new SL-C3100 in my sweaty hands.
Only trouble is that my PC (a 5 year old Sotec) runs Windows 98 Japanese. I have absolutely no trouble fonts not surprisingly but cannot find a useable driver.
I've tried downloading the SL-A300 and C760 software from the Sharp support website. The SL-A300 appeared to contain nothing useful in terms of drivers, but the C760 seemed to contain a compatible driver - It installs the various .sys files a .vxd and two inf files (slz3ndis.inf, slz3unic.inf), but this doesn't seem to actually work.
Connecting with the Zaurus in storage mode just continually reverts me to teh Windows "new hardware" and "not a campatible driver" if I select the .inf files.
Connecting in PC Link mode tricks the Zaurus into thinking it is connected, but not the PC (I even tried using a Fuji USB storage driver) - The result usually being a frozen Win98 PC. The only way out of this "connecting..." screen on the Zaurus is battery removal as well, so I am getting rather fed-up with my failed attempts.
Any suggestions for a way around? I could upgrade to WinXP, but use a fair amount of poorly written Dos/V type applications, so would really prefer to stay with the (admittedly crap) Win98 if possible.
Many thanks,
Marcus

Is it windows 98 or windows 98 se?
If it is just win98 I am afraid you are out of luck.

Hi Matrix200,
Good point, it is actually Windows98 SE so in theory if I can find a compatible USB storage device e.g. something else with similar controller for a portable HDD) it should be OK.
I am currently surviving, by using my iPaq 3630 to copy files to CF-card and then transferring the card to Zarus, but less than ideal since the aged iPaq has a serial/COM connection.
Guess I am paying the price for being to cheap to upgrade my laptop to Windows XP
Cheers,
Marcus

I remember doing this for a usb-storage card a long time back.
Basically you need to get/install usb-storage drivers, it took a while but google did find them for me.
I remember installing the same drivers on a hotel computer running win98SE Japanese before the drivers from the install CD would work.
Give google a go, I'll try to find the link again but can't promise anything
Stu
Edit: You might want to try the drivers for the C760 or SL5x00 zaurus they work on win98 according to some googling.

Hi Stu,
Thanks for the reply. On retrying the 760 drivers in NETWORK mode I managed to get a working Windows 98 network connection. (The drivers show in the network section of device manager).
The C760 intellisync software failed however, so I uninstalled the intellisync software and installed the C3100 software.
The Intellisync (syncronise) worked perfectly as did the Zaurus-Drive, which was what I really wanted - USB connectivity.
I am puzzled that I could not get USB/Serial connectivity working, but am more than happy with the Network connectivity, Synchronization and Zaurus-drive.
Many thanks for the advise and encouragement.
Cheers,
Marcus
