The following KnowledgeBase article from Apple explains how to tweak the Preferences in OS X from creating new .DS_Store files when opening folders on remote volumes mounted using SMB/CIFS, AFP, NFS, and WebDAV.
If you have not been bothered by .DS_Store files littered all over your Zaurus, then you need not bother with this fix.

Thank you for this interesting hint - the creation of "invisible" files by OS X on server volumes always was annoying to me.
I hope that this also works in OS 10.3 - I'll try it out.
