Problem: I downloaded qpe-terminal_1.5.0-2_arm.ipk with my macos x 10.4.1 box. copied qpe-terminal_1.5.0-2_arm.ipk to SD card and Package installer can't see it on the SD card.
My gear:
SL-5500 (default qtopia linux)
SanDisk 512 meg SD card
SanDisk sd card reader
I don't have the cradle docking station yet. Hopefully its on the way to me.
The Zaurus recognizes the SD card because I can see the SD icon at bottom right of screen.
System Info can "see" the SD card and show me the available storage space.
Dunno why the damn package installer can't see the package in the window.
Any help on what mistake I'm making here would be gratefully accepted..
The SD card seems to be compatible....hmmm
Please email me with suggestions!

Can you see the file on the "Documents" tab? Which Zaurus and ROM do you have?

Hi
Before you junk your SD card, try these out.
1) Sometimes after download, Package installer will not see a package. I suspect it is looking in cache not physically at the card.
Do a soft re-boot from the system menu and try again and often it works properly.
2) If there is anything at all wrong with the package, it often does not appear. I have had this problem before and found that the file I had downloaded was not the same size as the original. I downloaded via ftp instead of http and got the correct sized package which showed up and installed perfectly.
If you cant use ftp, delete the cache on your browser and try downloading from another site, then check the file size
3) I dont know if you have a Files tab on the 5500, that would give a sanity check and show the ipk was there, whatever Package Installer says. As you are trying to install a terminal, not much point in my suggesting you go to it and do ls /mnt/card !
It is very unlikely to be your card, especially if you have anything else on it you can access

Try clicking on it on the Documents tab. If the file is OK, it should launch the add/remove software program and install. That is, assuming that it kept its name and it ends with .ipk. Otherwise, it might be like the previous poster said and the file is somehow corrupted and you should try redownloading it.

You Guys rock! thanks for all of your help!
all is good now
Here's what I did:
I mounted the sd card with my mac
cd /Volumes/sdcard
then I used wget to pull down the package file to the sd card and clicked on the icon in the Documents tab. Installed without a hitch to the sd card!
Awesome.
Do you guys think I should upgrade the rom to v3? Is it worthwhile?
