Title: mplayer (Kino2) and 2-pass encoding, B-frames, GMC, QPEL
Post by: Prefect47 on January 31, 2004, 03:12:30 pm
Has anyone experimented with how any of these things affect playback? I kinda get the impression that 2-pass encoding makes the bitrate too high on certain scenes (like the beginning of the DS9 intro sequence) even at an averate bitrate of 400kbps with 48kbps mono 48khz sound

B-frames shouldn\'t affect decoding negatively if I understand them correctly, they should actually give a speed boost. OTOH, the bitrate can be almost doubled for the surrounding frame if you use the same average bitrate...

GMC (Global Motion Compensation) - I have no idea on how it affects the Z...

QPEL - From what I\'ve read, this isn\'t supported, and probably never will be (too much CPU power required).

Any thoughts?
