Title: Trying To Get Through Tar
Post by: graharf on July 29, 2005, 01:37:39 pm
Just a newbe to the world of Zaurus, but am trying to jump in with both feet. I've had my C3000 for about a week now and wanting to load some additional programs to it.

Found a few .ipk files that have loaded OK, but haven't figured out these .TAR files.

Tried -xvf .... and was told "Bad tar header, skipping. Seeing a post for gtar and zip, but these didn't work. Another post got me to: -zxvf ... and now 3 new files are in my directory.

control.tar.gz
data.tar.gz
debian-binary

I'm stuck again.

Please forward the steps to unloading a TAR file. Here is the program I copied to my Z.

zddice_1.0.0_arm.ipk.tar

Thanks a head of time for the help.
Bob

This looks like an ipk file. If you still have the zddice_1.0.0_arm.ipk.tar, do the following. Type the following command on the shell:
cp zddice_1.0.0_arm.ipk.tar zddice_1.0.0_arm.ipk
this will make a copy of the file with a different name (you can remove the extra copies later). Then see if the add/remove software program sees the ipk file and try to install it.

Felipe,

I can't believe it was that easy. Thanks

Don't guess it will be that way for all TAR files.

it wasn't a tar file per se, but it was an ipkg that was named wrong.  As you can see ipkgs can use tar within.
