They're not real fun to type on though. You have to hit the keys dead on or you get nothing.
-
I have one similar.
I think I wll get the hard folder to replace it if I ever get usb keyboard support in pdax
-
I'd recommend one of these instead, if you're planning on light use:

Instead of usb, I have used and like the IR Pocketop keyboard. Here's one (I'm not the seller) on eBay:
Can't seem to get eBay links to work, so just go to ebay and search for:
Pocketop keyboard
-
does it support linux?
-
I've seen some threads on makeing them work.

I have a 3000 and the Targus Stowaway USB keyboard. Some people have reported that it "works fine" out of the box. On mine, the Num Lock and Caps Lock lights do not light up, and the keybord is perpetually in Num Lock mode. The little "N" in the lower right-hand corner of the screen goes on and off when I toggle num lock, but it does not change the num lock status.
If I plug the keyboard into a Windows or Linux desktop or laptop computer, the Num Lock and Caps Lock keys lights light up. After plugging the keyboard into a Windows or Linux box, if I plug it back into my Z, it works correctly.
My conclusion is that the Z does not initialize this keyboard in the way that desktop/laptop Linux does.
I've had my Z for 3 days so maybe there's something I'm missing, but so far it looks like the Stowaway does not work....

I just got one of those flexible keyboards. They're not too bad to type on. Not as good as a REAL full size keyboard, not quite as good as the KB on my Mobilepro 780. But better, I think than the integrated keyboard if you are going to be doing a lot of typing. Long emails or a lot of terminal work...
(Even though I think the integrated KB really isn't that bad at all...)
The build quality is pretty good (now let's see how long this thing lasts in my messanger bag as I tromp across Japan...), and it was recognized fairly easily (seems like it has to be connected when you power on the unit...). The keys don't seem too unforgiving. Leastwise I didn't feel as if I had to MASH them or anything, just typed normally.
One thing I DO NOT like is that for some odd reason it has two 'enter' keys right next to each other. One is the size of a letter key, the other is oversized (verticaly). A weird design IMHO. Weirder still, it has two letter sized shift keys on each side instead of one double sized key, again right next to each other. Same surface area, but I don't like mashin' around on the edges of keys, even if they are soft and still work it just feels wrong.
Maybe it's like that to preserve flexibility, I don't know...
Overall for $16 (shipped) I suppose I'm happy with it, but it does have it's faults.
I had the Pocketop IR keyboard before with my 5500, and I like this flexi one much better already...
Just my opinion...

I read this post befoe my own c3100 arrived, and it worried me because I had already purchased a Fellowes keyboard in preparation for its arrival. But it has since arrived and it works perfectly. By "perfectly" I mean that all keys function fine, although it of course uses the Japanese (JIS) keyboard layout used on the Zaurus keyboard, so some punctuation keys are in different places than on a stnadard keyboard in the US. But I have no problems like you mention.

Hmm. Either I got a bad keyboard, bad cable or there's a difference between the 3100 and the 3000. I'll dig up another USB keyboard and try again. Thanks.

I have a 3000 and a Fellowes stowaway. Works fine, except for the layout (which should be solvable with keyhelper) and the Capslock/Numlock lights don't seem to work. You might have a bum unit.

Looks like I have to backpeddle. I just received one of the folding usb keyboards, and I like it MUCH better than the rubber one. It feels more like a regular keyboard and it is actually a bit MORE portable.
The FOLDING usb one gets my vote...
-
I went for a full-size rollable for use with the samsung Nexio. It was, frankly, unusable. The keys really were awful to type on.
I then ordered a Fellowes USB Foldable keyboard, and it on the other hand is superb - the travel is fair, and the device is simply excellent to type on. The only drawback is the frankly daft decision to not have an escape key...
The fellowes cost me $17 from ebay, plus about $20 for shipping to England. It was definitely worth it!

The Fellowes keyboard is very nice and now that it's so cheap, it's a great choice. My only complaint is that the USB cable is a separate dongle-like thing that seems easy to lose or break.
-
I have to agree - I'm now paranoid of losing that cable! When I get an idle moment, I'll crack the dongle bit open to see what's in there.

I have a Stowaway keyboard that I used with my Handspring Visor. My understanding is that this Fellowes keyboard is basically the same, but with a USB adapter ("dongle-like thing"). So I assume this means I could potentially use my Visor Stowaway with my C1000??
Does anyone know how I could get my hands on one of these adapters?

I paid $17 for the whole shebang from ebay for mine... They're now on ebay at $20, $25 buy it now with much cheaper shipping than I paid

I doubt you'll get the dongle thingy on its own, or if you do I doubt it'll be cheaper.
Cheers,
Nick.

You can't just stick the adapter onto a different stowaway. The Fellowes is based on the same design, but it's not like it's exactly the same with just a USB cable added.
There were many people in Japan who worked to get the original folding keyboards for the palm to work with earlier models of Zaurus, but suffice it to say, it took soldering and wires and a lot of know-how, and even then the results weren't great. Given how cheap these things are now, it's not like it's a big deal to buy a new one.

Presumably shipping to France adds to the price -- and maybe duty, VAT, etc (not sure).

I already cracked mine open. I was hoping that it was just a USB cable and a couple of LEDs, that way I could just rig up a cable directly to the board. That wasn't the case, unfortunately. It had a chip inside, as well as a few supporitng compontents (capacitors and the like). Oddly the circuit card in the adapter has the connector labeled 'Visor', though the connector is not the type I remember being on friend's Visor. I'm not sure what the meaning of that is. There's enough pins going from the chip to the keyboard, that it could be a matrix decoder itself, and the keyboard with no logic what-so-ever. I don't have the chip number handy right now, or I'd post that.
