I know this has been mentioned before but it all seems to be out of data posts. I can't seem to get a vnc server working under OZ (specifically the latest hentges ROM release). I've downloaded the fbvnc ipk in the feed but if has certain dependencies that arn't in the feed.
These are:
fbvncserver-kmodule
libvncserver-storepasswd
libvncserver-javaapplet
I'd have thought there were loads of people who would want to use vnc at least while they setup their zaurus as it can really save time.
Someone must have this working...
Cheers,
fluffybob

I could never get it to work with OZ. I think I managed to get everything but on screen mouse clicks working. I have it working on my Sharp 3.13 ROM though.

I take it they're not in any of the feeds (even those which you don't have setup). Ask hrw to add these ipks to the upgrades feed.

They are in the feed, just make sure you have the right one enabled. I believe these are all in the "machine" tree. . . add the feed for .../machine/[name of your machine] to ipkg.conf via editor or the package manager.
FWIW, I have not had fbvnc working very well for me on OZ (lots of delay, instability, etc...).

I just remembered...I downloaded files to get VNC to half work at this web site: [a href=\"http://www.fbriere.net/zaurus/]http://www.fbriere.net/zaurus/[/url]
The files I used were:
kbdsim-2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix_1-0fbriere.1_arm.ipk
fbvncserver-kmodule_0.9.4-r0_collie.ipk
fbvncserver_0.9.4-0fbriere.2_arm.ipk
zlib_1.1.2_arm.ipk
and maybe fbvncserver-sl5500_0.9.4_arm.ipk
Anyway, I have a folder on my PC with those files entitled fbvncserver and I now recall that briere's files were the only ones that half worked on OZ.
Hope this helps you somewhat.

I found a problem with the fbvncserver-kmodule ipk from the feed. The odule is named zaurus-kbdsim.o while the fbvncserver is looking for kbdsim.o. I renamed the file and repackaged it. While I was at it, I also created a version that works with the 5600 (poodle). it it the same file, just in a new ipkg that recognizes the poodle. Bug #202 has been filed at OpenEmbedded.org. For now, here are the two files:

Ok. I got fbvncserver to work. in 3.5.3. With the exception that keyboard inputs don;t reach the application. Any suggestions on getting keyboard woking would be really appreciated.
Another minor issue: an application start icon does not show up in the GUI. Any suggestions ? I think this is just a matter of creating a valid .desktop file...
Executed command:
ipkg install fbvncserver
This installed:
root@collie:/media/card/home/root# ipkg list_installed | grep vnc
fbvncserver - 0.9.4-r1 - framebuffer VNC server
fbvncserver-kmodule - 0.9.4-r0 - framebuffer VNC server keyboard events module
libvncserver-javaapplet - 0.6-r0 - library for easy implementation of a RDP/VNC server
libvncserver-storepasswd - 0.6-r0 - library for easy implementation of a RDP/VNC server
here is what ipkg.conf looks like:
root@collie:/media/card/home/root# cat /etc/ipkg.conf

rename/symlink zaurus-kbdsim.o to kbdsim.o. that should get the keyboard working again.

That worked . Here is what I did:
cd /lib/modules/2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix/kernel/drivers/misc/
cp zaurus_kbdsim.o kbdsim.o
depmod -ae
shutdown -r now
upon reboot, kbdsim showed up in lsmod
Thanks very much.

I've tried and installed fbvncserver on a 3.5.4-RC (or a bit later, recompiled from bitbake on my own) on a SL-C1000.
It works, except that I can no longer move the mouse with the stylus... looks like it won't work when kbdsim module is loaded...
Is this what you experienced ?

I think there may be a problem if using fbvnc with GPE (which uses X), which is what I tried to do.
I get better results now with x11vnc on GPE... maybe this is the right way to do ?

I've tested and have the same problem with opie... maybe a problem with calibrating the (tssimd ?) server ?
Excerpt from the README :
Once the PDA has rebooted, you need to calibrate the touchscreen emulation
daemon. To do that, tap as precisely as you can the top-left corner, then the
bottom-right corner of the display. Don't worry if Qtopia reacts to your
tappings, it doesn't understand that you're doing a calibration because the
daemon runs silently underneath it.
Bug ?
