Hello!
i want my zaurus c3100 from pricejapan because the price is unbeatable. but i dont really know how to convert the unit to english... and i do not want to wait until other roms are out.
so i searched the net for documentation but could not find something for the c3100 but i f ound how to's for the c3000 here on oesf.org. by editing the locale.conf of the c3000 it is possible to convert it to english... but does it work on the c3100 too? i think it should but i am also not 100% sure.
is there another possibility?
or what about a nand-backup? could somebody give me an english nand-backup?
hope that somebody can help me.

it should work, if not pick up a backup from TriSoft, then restore the z when you get it to the backup file

but make sure you backup before you install.

do i need a new console as soon as i install mcconvert?

I bought the 3100 on June 24th in Akihabara, I tried the TriSoft restore on Saturday and it toasted the 3100 so bad it would not Boot I couldn't get a reset to take but I think I missed a step during the restore.
I would advise using caution if trying the Trisoft, as there seems to be a significant change from the 3000 to the 3100.

never, NEVER, _NEVER_EVER_ (!) use a NAND or normal backup
from a different model (OK, using an 860 NAND to upgrade a 760
is allowed).
We have a perfect backup set for the SL-C3100, no need to try
the one from the SL-C3000. Only the official "Service/Download"
page for the 3100 is actually missing, but the files are there.

ill back up trisoft on this one
they have the best support and everyone here knows that 3xxx does not mean compatability between each one.
I cant recall exactly but they have an excellent pdf manual translated to english for the c series and also, they provide nand original backup links and tools all available to us.

no. just install and reboot. its an installer. use the ipk manager in settings. Of course you have to guess the yes and no button since its in jap. or click on the instaler file.
after you install, reboot. everything will be in english but some programs. If you need some programs in english, look at some of my posts and you will see photostorage for english for example. and other stuff.
after your brave enough, you can probably try other rom images. I do recommend you try the default so you can get familiar with the zaurus c series feel.
you should download trisofts PDF mannual for the zaurus.

I'll give your 3100 backup a go.
I guess I should have clarified the Saturday, that I tried your 3000 backup was Saturday June 25 the day after the 3100 was available to purchase and at the time you didn't have a 3100 backup.

... i'm not new to zaurus c-series. i had a c860 before but instead of translating it to english i took cacko rom.
i think i've just read somewhere that you have to install a new terminal program when using mcconvert. but i dont think there would be any problems, beacaus i think qconsole is available in the feed.

Awesome! I got my C3100 a few weeks ago and have been using it with just the locale.conf changed to en. Your package contains all sorts of useful goodies (I had a look) I particularly like the removal of the japanese input methods and their replacement with the english ones. Hanacom Word in English is nice too... Well now just waiting for a compatible Cacko ROM.
