Looking at this thread about OpenOffice (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14089), the glibc on pdaXrom is refered to as glibc2.2.5 on RC10, has it been updated to glibc2.3.2 for this release?

I'm just curious for the whole OpenOffice testing

Have just flashed this new release and as with the previous release, I'm in awe, this is great! :-)

If I could just get OpenOffice on here, I'd never flash back to anything else!

Is the unit meant stay on, even with the screen closed?

sorry to bother you guys but i am having problem installing.

following these directions

Quote
   1. Extract the 3 files - initrd.bin, tools.tar, updater.sh -

to the root of your FAT16 formated (ext3 will not work) CF or

SD/MMC card and connect the AC adapter to the Zaurus.
   2. From a terminal type reboot and press Enter. Now press and

hold the "OK" button on the keyboard. Alternative: You can

remove the battery, reinsert it and power on your Zaurus while

holding down OK key.
   3. You should see the Japanese service menu. Select option 4

(flash/update).
   4. Here, you have four options (1. USB, 2. CF, 3. SD, 4.

Back). Select CF or SD.
   5. Press the button on the left with the "Y" in it.
   6. The pdaXrom installer is launched
   7. Choose option "Resize root partition"
   8. Enter a desired size - like 45 up to 120 depending on your

needs. You have to apply "Fix sharp loader NAND 64MB limit ()"

on the SL-C760, 860 models to choose more than 64. For SL-C700,

750 models 46 seems to be good.
   9. Choose "Install new rom". The installation process begins,

it will take some minutes. After the installation is complete,

the system reboots and you will get a login prompt.
  10. Login as "root", no password needed.
  11. To set a root password (recommended), type passwd after

you logged in.
  12. Type startx (because it doesn’t start automatically on

pdaXrom), calibrate the screen.
  13. Start the System Tools/Package manager, go to the Settings

tab, remove all feed lines and add the one listed next to your

model in the first section.
  14. If you are connected to the Internet, click on the middle

button in the top line to update your feed information from the

new place.
  15. Everything is ready, start using pdaXrom!

seriously need to update this.

i spent 3 hours figuring this out and i figured it out.

when it asks to format the internal drive, say yes.  reboot after format and now it works.

still buggy but i will report my findings.

excellent and just amazing from what i saw

its very very exquisite

I agree, the pdaXrom website seriously needs an update. Are there plans to do this? I'm no web guru, but I've some time next week, I could try and help with a few parts of the content if the website's owners are willing.

But I also agree, pdaXrom as the finished product is awesome on the C1000, to my mind, it may be a small festival of bugs right now, but when it's stable and most of those are fixed, the competition are going to have to produce something special to tempt me away from it.

The website is being update as we speak - some parts of it has already been fixer but at the same time we are working on a new site - but we can't seem to find the right CMS.

I think something should be done about the lack of support for wifi cards out of the box. I don't know how OpenZaurus does it, but I'm gonna find out.

Hi All,

I am still a little unsure here if the new RC10.4 - the latest one for Z C1000 - is OK to put on my C860?

Edit-
......and for that matter, if there is any benefit to updating to it.

The right hand shift key doesn't seem to work
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=90829\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

You can fix the right-hand shift not working by modifying /etc/sysconfig/keyboard/kernel.map:

Instead of
  keycode 103 = Shift

Change the keycode to 112:

  keycode 112 = Shift

103 is actually the '.' key, maybe just a typo...?

This is probably only good for the C1k and C3k.

jason

EDIT: fixed the location of the kernel.map file -- thanks scheck.r!

The kernel.map file is located in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard/kernel.map

Open the file with SciTE or just click on it under ROX filemanager

I have problems with the CF Interface: my SMC2642W EZ Connect wireless card doesn't work, and it's confused with either a normal memory flash card or a SANDISK Wireless card. With RC10.1 I had an stable network connection.

I also tried modifying the /etc/pcmcia/hermes.conf and /etc/pcmcia/conf files. I just gave up, and I'll  wait for the next release without network connection. I notice the CF interface wasn't very stable, I had a lot of hang-up but without any pattern, I mean I can't report when the bug happens.

I have to say I tried other ROMs and I just don't like them after using pdaXrom.

Thanks.  I got as far as opening the kernel.map file in SciTE and there are only two keycodes listed.

keycode 89 = Alt
keycode 88 = Control

I added 'keycode 112 = Shift' and tried to save the file but it would not let me save it under the current name.  If there is a trick for this, maybe a chmod?, please let me know.

That doesn't sound like the correct keymap... mine is:
Code: [Select]

keycode 89 = Alt
keycode 90 = nul
keycode 40 = nul
keycode 121 = nul
keycode 122 = nul
keycode 112 = Shift

The permissions:
Code: [Select]
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root          273 Aug  8 19:44 /etc/sysconfig/keyboard/kernel.map
If you're logged in as root you should be able to edit that file.

The date on my kernel. map file is  Jan 1 1970 and the permissions are as you listed.  I am also logged in as root.

Can I copy the current kernel.map, edit it (with the keycodes you have listed), and save it as kernel1.map then delete the kernel.map and replace with the modified kernel1.map and rename the file back to kernel.map.

Sure, give it a shot.

The other thing to check is that the keys work when you're not in X... there's another layer of indirection added with the .xmodmap files.  First thing is to get it going with the kernel map.

Also, the command to load a keymap is 'loadkeys <map-file>" so you could actually just create a kernel1.map file from my example and use the above command to load it.

Has anyone gotten the USB networking to work with RC10.4?

I tried the same method as RC10 by using modprobe to load acm, hid, and pxa27x_bi but when I connected my USB cable the system locked up.

No USB0 device was created either.

My windows box did not recognize the Zaurus as the NDIS device and had USB Mass Storage instead.

(yes my Zaurus USB device is set to network, address 192.168.128.201)

Just got my C1000 today and flashed it to this ROM straight away.

Everything seems to be fine for me apart from I can't get the silkscreen buttons to do anything at all.

Great ROM none the less, looking forward to the version that will allow me to use the USB host support.

On the subject of wifi, my LA4100 Spectrum24 wifi card worked out the box.

I am yet to try my bluetooth card however, will report back results.

Sakey,

The current RC  allows you to use the usb host for a mouse now, but you either have to use pdaXrom with a mouse or touchscreen only, not both at once.

It takes some fiddling with the serverargs line in startx. The procedure is in this thread, I believe.

Ok, been running the latest version for a day or so now, and am suitably impressed

I have most programs I want running and most of my hardware (the USB host works perfectly with my flash drive )

Only things I have noticed are:

The Fn+1 and Fn+2 to change the screen size doesn't work (dunno if I have missed something there)

and my Bluetooth card freezes the Zaurus as soon as I plug it in.

They are just small niggles though. Keep up the great work guys

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=95638\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
