Title: Can You Use Pcmcia Cards

Hi,

I want to attach a PCMCIA card to my zaurus, not a CF card but a full blown PCMCIA. I have seen references to PCMCIA expansion ports but can't find any specific products.

This is so I can attach the Zaurus to a 3G data card for on the move connectivity, GPRS is nice but 3G would make life so much easier.

You need to make doubly sure that the card isn't CardBus, but a true PCCard/PCMCIA.

Then you need an adapter like this one, if the device can be powered by the Z:

Or this one, if it needs more power through the PCMCIA connector than the Z can supply:

There's some other caveat to using PCCards, but I can't remember it exactly. Something like being able to run in 12-bit mode?

I take it the cardbus problem rules this out.

Correct, it has to be a 16 bit PCMCIA type card.

I'm no genius, but I fooled around with this for a while. I think I ran into power consumtion problems. I was trying to run a 5v lucent/orinoco/cabletron/att/whatever pcmcia card over an adaptor. I got the drivers to load, and read from the card, but never managed to enable it as a dev

It has to be an older card that is 16 bit and runs on 3.0 or 3.3 volts, the cf slot doesn't supply any more than that.
