answer these questions.
do you have "service"? payed for digital access?

the way i do it is a i pay 24 dollars a month extra for unlimited digital access. I set up a bluetooth dialup with *99#. It access sellphone and i get net access.

i setup the networking via the network applet & selected bluetooth ppp

Well the reason i am asking is because i have a service under network in settings called "dial-up Bluetooth". That is how i dial into my cellphone and i get net access. I setup up and use the number *99# with no username or password when i try and connect. it connects. if you redo anything, remember to restart bluetooth or reboot so settings can take affect. that number i use to dial is digital dialup provided for me by my phone company. of course you can get access into your phone but is your phone accessing out? I don't think so because your not using dial up. Call the phone company and ask them what number do you need to use to dial out for netaccess via bluetooth. I also use bluetooth on my laptop and I can either connect to the phone or i can dial out. Connecting to the phone and dialing out are two different things on my laptop as well. I am not sure how UK's do it but that is how it works in the usa. Hope this helps something. The good thing though is your zaurus loves your bluetooth and you are just brave enough to use a usb dongle. Maybee i should try it since i have a targus usb. My bluetooth getup is with cf ambicom made in taiwan.
here is the list of ipk's i use
bluez_zaurus_2[1].12_2.4.20_alpha4_arm.ipk
bluez-csr-serial_0.1_arm.ipk
bluez-zaurus_arm.ipk
qtopia-bluetoothnetworkapplet_1.0.1_arm.ipk------i think this is the one you need.
qtopia-pannetworkapplet_1.0.1_arm.ipk
sudo_0.1_arm.ipk

Are you definitely sure the Vodafone APN you are using is the full Internet one?
Many network providers have a WAP only APN and a full Internet Access APN (often the WAP one is cheaper or unlimited), which might explain the lack of web access.
Ping may well be disabled in any case through the Vodafone network.

i am not sure what you mean. is this a setting i have to configure on the C3000? or on the phone? on the issue of the phone i got the setting sent by text from vodafone & i explained that i wanted gprs service ( i am on a contract).

Sorry, I missed this before - have you managed to get it working yet?
It's something you would configure in the dial up settings on the Z where you configure the APN details, although if the phone only has 1 set of GPRS settings, it should be the default, and hence not need explicit setting on the Z.
The problem can be if you've only been set up for WAP internet access, and not full internet access, which might be the case if you phone only supports WAP (ie isn't a Smartphone with a full internet browser).
If you can list the settings used in both your Z and in your phone it might be possible to work out whether it's a settings problem, or a Voda problem.

I have a Vodafone UK pay-as-you-go SIM for GPRS as a second account via Bluetooth.
When I first tried to connect I found that I had to request that Vodafone enabled full web GPRS on the account. Just checking but have you asked them to do this? (I did see from the quote that they sent you the settings so I would have thought they would have enabled it).
Next thing to check, what dial up string are you using? This can effect which access point the phone tries to connect to.
Here's a link of most UK GPRS Settings (http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html) which might be of help.
I haven't got my Z in front of me to check the settings I use but if you're still having problems then give me a shout and I'll post them here.

Which usb BT dongle do you use? Manufacturor and Chipset? TIA

If you want an easier route, we have some software that sets this up for you - Bluefig.
Have a look here - there's some screenshots so you can see what it does:

Can you report the results of these commands when you think your GPRS is active please?
ifconfig
netstat -r
cat /etc/resolv.conf

my gprs via bluetooth doesnt work either!
using cacko 1.23, not C1000/3x00 but C760, but the issue is relevant...
i can connect to phone (ericsson t39) but then there's no data transfer whatsoever. ping or surfing doesnt work.
please dont ask whether my APN is right or if i'm data enabled at all. same setup & phone works fine with other devices. (yeah CE devices, so persuade me it is worth using a zaurus. gprs via bluetooth is one of the most important stuff for me)
ifconfig: i do get an IP.
but i'll copy the whole thing here soon.
netstat -r and cat /etc/resolv.conf
: forgot the results, i'll check it again
btw, card model is: socket bt rev E, rev F (so both are older socket cards), anycom bt, eagletec (yes four different cards, none work)
as for this bluefig, is this free or anything?
-
forgot to mention i tried two different gprs providers, vodafone (vodafone HU) and another one you probably never heard of, pannon.
with pannon i can get an IP at least, with vodafone i cannot at all... (can connect but that's all i get)
if i use a different chatscript than the default (ATZ, *99# - i tried to change these settings for example i inserted AT+CGDCONT...etcetc or changed number to *99***1#), it won't work even as far as connecting to the phone successfully.
anyway why can't i see a "pair" button or anything in the bluetooth gui? had to do pairing initiating it from the phone. so strange.. yes i'm a newbie
