Title: Opera Issues
Post by: Psion on August 18, 2005, 12:12:38 pm
Ok, somehow opera disappeared from my sl-5500 running Sharp ROM.
I downloaded and installed opera 7.3 for SL-5x00.

Two problems:

1.  When I click on the icon, the hourglass runs in the taskbar then disappears, and opera doesn't launch.

2.  When I launch opera from the konsole, it starts but I get some error messages:

Could not find "init/standard_mouse.ini"
Cannot read the directory: /usr/mnt.rom/card/.operasave
Cannot read the directory: /usr/mnt.rom/cf/.operasave

What do I need to do to fix these issues?

Thanks for the help.

Woops.

Accidentally put this under General post also.

Sorry for the redundancy.

This is a shot in the dark but try renameing .operasave to .oldoperasave .  It should make a new .operasave the next time it starts up.  Probably got corrupted.

BarryW:

Thanks for the suggestion, but there doesn't appear to be a .operasave file in either /card or /cf.

I'll try creating it and see what happens.

ohh you screwed up royally.

you need to change permissions on your opera.

Code: [Select]
su
chown -R zaurus:qpe /home/zaurus/.opera
chmod 700 /home/zaurus/.opera

those are for perm changes on the c1000 series.  hope that works for you.

Quit scaring me!
I followed the chown command and got:

chown: unknown group name: gpe

Thats' probably from the c1000 vs. SL-5500 issue.
Any other ideas?

Much obliged.

Cresho:

Didn't solve the problem.
Still can't start Opera by tapping on it, and still getting same errors when starting it by konsole.

Redownload Opera and give another try.
I'm running Konqueror on my 5500 without any problems.

Proton:

Are you running under the Sharp ROM?
If so, maybe I should look at switching over.

PrOtOn:

I've finally installed Konqueror on my SL-5500, however I'm having a few issues.
It installed fine, loads up fine, but after loading a webpage, my unit reboots itself.  Happened a couple times, even when the program was started by command line.
Since the system reboots, I have no idea what the console says as to the problem.

Any help out there would be greatly appreciated.

I can only imagine that K takes up more memory.  Do you have a swap file set up?
