There's a QCOP call to perform rotation iirc; I presume that you can assign this call (look on the trolltech site in their docs to see its exact form) to one of the hardware keys using the applet on the Settings page,

Yes that's right, otherwise it would be some other method (not a QCOP call).

If you get stuck, take a look at the source for libopie2 (iirc) and the ODevice definition - it shows how to perform rotation (you can find webcvs of the Opie source on www.handhelds.org).
