Hi all!
I had my Zaurus in my pocket and when I pulled it out, it didn't turn on. When I got home I tried to recharge it, to see if it was a problem with the batteries, but the battery led doesn't light up either. I left it for a few hours and nothing.
I have tried to emulate the contact of the sliding cover to see if there was a contact problem with the cancel button., and still no results.
I really need to recover all my data from the internal flash.
The Zaurus is 3 years old now.
Any ideas on how to power it up?
Thanks in advance!

I thought I had this problem one time. It turned out that I had not slid the battery lock all the way over. It acted completely dead. Once I clicked it into place, it worked fine.
I hope your problem is this simple.

I wish you were right, but it is not that. Does anybody know whether the zaurus gets its power always from the battery even when plugged to AC current? If so, might it be a problem of the battery?
Thanks again for your support!

Well, today I bought a cheap tester to test the battery. The tester reads 3.79 V, so the battery is in perfect working condition. Does anyone get a clue why the Zaurus appears dead? (By the way, I also checked the internal tiny battery).

Just throwing out ideas here:
I've had the battery switch get pulled down when I pulled it out of my pocket, but I'm sure after all you've been through with the battery that that can't be it; however, could it be that the mechanism which causes the battery switch to close has suddenly become defective? I would not know how to check that because I'm not clear on what that battery switch does exactly. Maybe someone else can help you.
Have you resorted to a reflash yet? Maybe that would "bring it around"??
Also, you might try abrading the battery contacts with something ...I do this with other devices and sometimes get them back to working. Maybe you shouldn't do this with the Z. I don't know. Just trying to help.

Does it work when it's plugged into the cradle with the AC being plugged into the back of the cradle?

Hi all,
I just had the same behavior form my Zaurus SL-5500, no mather what I did with it I was unable to make it lit a single LED. Tryed all combinations of plugged/unplugged, hard/soft reset. And then decided to re download the kernel and tried to reflash it in any case (wasn't risking much at this point), and to my big surprise it came alive! It even started to lit the battery LED when I connected it to the outlet.
So in my case I guess flash got corrupted when I tried to flash a (probably bad) kernel, and somehow this influenced the LEDs. And just in case your flash got corrupted by some other means you may as well want to try this procedure.

I have tried all your suggestions. And nothing occurs. I am just giving up.
Thanks all who gave a hint. In fact I must say that I never expected my Zaurus to last that much. I dropped it into salt water 2 years ago. I managed to resurrect it after 2 days of intensive cares wiping out all the salt. It has lasted since then although I never managed to get the speaker work again.
So don't take the impression that the Zaurus is not a robust PDA. On the contrary, I really feel it is an excellent device that withstands heavy duty use.
If anyone has a brilliant idea, or is willing to buy some parts, just let me know.
