Title: C7xx software on 5500
Post by: Airwolf on February 04, 2004, 04:01:23 am
Ok guys i need someone out there to clarify this one. I installed a couple of apps (Petite Peinture, TreeExplorer) which state that they are for c7xx PDA\'s.

To my surprise both run, apparently OK, on my 5500. I didn\'t expect this!

Is it just me missing something or is this a surprise to others?

Just curious

The resolution difference shouldn\'t be a problem in general if the developer has used QT layouts properly or maybe SDL. Unlike PalmOS where app layouts are fixed and have to be customised for different resolutions, Qtopia apps can make use of QT layouts which automatically resizes everything properly. I think even SDL may scale things appropriately if setup correctly.

There\'s little difference between the Cxxx ROMs and the latest 5500 ROM as far as I know. I\'m not sure if anything has to be coded especially for the Cxxx zooming though, but it obviously isn\'t a show stopper.

I think most theKompany apps don\'t use layouts properly which is half the reason they end up making different versions (They also do XScale optimisations for some apps).
