Title: USB storage mode
Post by: Ashley on February 04, 2004, 11:48:30 am
For my surprise I found a couple of days ago that x11 ROM has a utility for switching to the c860 storage mode

I don\'t know if this has been reported previously in this forum, I\'m following it since it was created and don\'t remember.

It\'s the /etc/usbcontrol script.

net and storage options worked me ok, switching z between normal (c760) and storage (c860) modes. Tested with several linux boxes and windows.
serial mode hanged my Z, but I think it\'s useless (for me)

But I have a problem: in storage mode I can only access to my CF card, not my SD. I\'ve tried many things: remove CF and restart, mount, umount,...
Also tried to modify /etc/hotplug/usbstorage.agent, but any change seem to work. Is it really called when /etc/usbcontrol storage is executed?

A solution could be make a ln -s fron my CF to my SD or even internal flash, but I can\'t since my CF is vfat (windows compatibility :x )

Any ideas?

As I remember, you can use the USBDConfig tool under /Apps/Settings to setup the usb storage mode. My windows desktop was able to recognize the usb storage. But it asked me to format the disk (maybe because I formatted the sd card to ext2 format). I didn\'t format since there are data on my sd card. You can have a try.

Your sd card is probably busy (ie it has open processes on it).

Can you eject it ?

If so eject, reinsert and then try it. If not,  the find out what processes are tying it up (lsof or fuser).

Thak you both! USBDConfig works me almost fine

I think I\'m loving too much the command line

I don\'t now how it really works, and why the scripts don\'t, but...

But I have still a problem: it works fine on windows, but I can\'t umount Z from linux !! (device is busy always)

It worries me. I can\'t switch between CF and SD. I don\'t trust much file transfers to a filesystem you should remove without  cleanly unmount...

Same happens to anybody?

Ash.
