Post by: daniel3000 on September 07, 2005, 11:09:12 am
Hello,

I'd like to write various shell scrips, but I do not konw how to create the backquote character (`).

Copy and paste from other scripts will problaby work, but I'd like to do it the noral way, via the keyboard.

Thanks for any help

I don't have a 3000, but on my 760 it is shift plus the dash symbol.

Try using shift and minus (left of space) together.  The symbol that appears to be a backquote to the right of space isn't functional (at least as far as I know).

The braces aren't marked on the keypad either.  You can use FN+o and FN+p for the left and right braces respectively.  You can also use Shift+Space as an alternate way to get the pipe.

Hope this helps!

Shift-minus, that's it! Thanks!

Regarding Shift-Space: I have redefined that to also produce a space, because I have Shift set to "sticky", and thus it happens often that I accidentily have a shift-space instead of a space. Always getting a pipe annoyed me. ;-)

Regarding the third symbol on the keys right to space (backquote and degree): Couldn't it be made functional using on eof the Japanese modifier keys right of Ctrl?
But how...

Thanks
daniel

Perhaps, but I purchased a Zaurus with English pre-installed so the Japanese modifier keys were remapped to CTRL and ALT.

I wonder why one of the keys is remapped to Ctrl, since there already is a Ctrl key directly besides it. On mine it is also remapped to Ctrl, but I'd be willing to give up on that remapping in order to have an additional modifier key e.g. for these third dymbols on the keys.

Does anyone know how to comfigure the key in order to get the necessary modifier?

Thanks

Those two symbols are actually the japanese version of comma and fullstop (not backquote and degree but they look similar  So unless you are writing in japanese, you won't actually get those symbols. However, I mapped ctrl+m to produce the degree sign and fn+q to be backquote and ctrl+q to be single quote. This made it easier for me to remember the keys
