Title: Wellenreiter On Sharp Rom?
Post by: xamindar on September 11, 2005, 07:40:57 pm
It seems to me that WellenReiter only works on OZ, is that true?  Has anyone ever gotten it to work on the shart roms?

I have gotten it installed using those inetructions but it gives me an error (Your device is not properly configured.  Please reconfigur...) when I try to start scanning.

Might be related but in the config unter "Name:" there is nothing.

Any ideas?

Well I guess that is a no.

But surely if it can work on the C series it can work on my 5600?

I used to use it on the Sharp ROM a while back, on the 5500.  Haven't touched it in a while.  You'll need to use the older versions of course.

Was there anything special that you can remimber you had to do to get it working?

I remember seeing those error messages before and I remember that it was still easy to setup in the end (I had harder times with kismet gui).  Let me see if I can remember what I did.

you need libopie1 and libopie2 (from the zaurus feed here) and it must run with root permissions.  i don't remember anything beyond that.

Yeah, I got all the deps and as far as I know it does run as root on my watapon rom.  I think watapon runs as root by default unless I am mistaken.

That kismet tutorial might help someone.

Wellenreiter is a bit more pretty and has a cool signal strength graph.  It's more visual and also beeps when a new network is found.  (Kismet doesn't beep unless someone knows how to get it to do that.)

Thanks for all the usefull replies.

post the files you used to get wellen to semi work or what ever.  I d like to try it.

i also created a slappass modification that worked with kismet.  so all i had to do was slapp  the connection to what kismet sniffed and off i connected.  The only problem here is...i misplaced my folder were i created the ipk and i also misplaced the ipk.  If i remember, it took me 2 days to modify slappass.

I just installed the wellenreiter package from here today, but I had the packages from the cacko feed installed a couple of days ago.  Same result with both.

so far......so good

ill post something up by tonight with instructions.

as of 6:23pm, wellenrheiter works!!!

now i am going to put the files together and have something available within 3 hours for you to gloss over.

I still dont know what it does but under nets, i see my network which is called "heavyMetal" and my neighbors which is "linksys" and "rams"

ill post my configuration later because i need to play with it a bit to understand the settings and i also need to install this in my sl 5500 and test it and i need to nand restore and  install this from the start in my c1000.  Then ill help you configure your sl5600 to work with what you have.

post the card you have if you get this message.  Ill figure out which string will work best  for it or maybee ill leave that up to you.

here you go.  The tutorial i promised.

if you have problems, post it and if you have solutions, post it.

Let me know if it helps...ill check up on this in a bit.

install

libpcap0_0.7.2_arm.ipk
libopie1_1.0.2_arm.ipk
libopie2_1.8.2-20031220_arm.ipk
opie-wellenreiter_1.0.2.1-20031220_arm.ipk

hold icon down and disable magnify and also click enable

root privilege (don't worry for sl5xxx users.) but sl

users do need the root privilege.

Once that is done create a network profile as follows:

      Account
        Name: wellenreiter

      Config
        Non-Spec ESS-ID: "ANY" (unticked)

after all that mess, all you need to to from now on

is...
Connect to this network which is wellenreiter from the

network applet in the taskbar and then start

wellenreiter and a pop up may appear stating you are

not running as root which doesnt need concern.  say

yes and click on sniffer and hit start.  You should

connect by then.  If not, you just need to tweak it

according to your wifi card.  to stop it, hit sniffer

and stop.  then exit wellenreiter.  then close

wellenreiter connection in the taskbar applet.  that

is all.  If you happen to not be able to connect to

your normal wifi router with your wifi card with

automatic settings in another case, just reboot the

zaurus.  I noted that if you exit wellenreiter without

closing connection in the sniffer will hang the wifi

and render it useless unless you reboot.  I have not

tried reconnecting and starting and closing the

connection under wellenreiter yet.  if using with kismet, i found a problem though, if you cannot connect after to your regular wifi, just eject cf wifi and reinsert it.  I dont know what causes this problem. or reboot as well if it fails.

Thanks Cresho,
I have followed your tutorial just now, which was very similar to what another person on this forum said but still no go.
I was hoping there was something I was missing.

My card as a D-Link DCF-650W, that big huge power sucking one.  Wellenreiter worked fine when I had OZ on here but now it gives me that error i mentioned above no matter what driver I pick in the configuration.

If I click on "Perform Autodetection" it will choose wlan-ng.  An lsmod lists "prism2_cs".  Is it detecting it right?

What does the "name" section under interface say for you Cresho?  Mine is blank.  I don't understand how this program works but maybe it can't find my network scripts?

I look forward to hearing wether or not you got it working on your 5500.

it says wlan0 under name and wlanf-ng under driver

make sure you are using my ipk,s i posted.

try installing this from a fresh install of the zaurus.  i mean backup and restore os like if it came from the factory.

i did the installs and can assure you that nothing else is needed.  use the ipk i listed and not yours.

it is most likely it does not find your card.  try the ipk.s i stated.  if you cant find em, email me and ill send em to you

EDIT!!!!  Never mind, I already have them.  They are the ones I already had installed.  Gosh I better go to bed.  In any case it doesn't work
