Check out this console app :-
http://killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=1667 (http://killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=1667)
It is totally awesome!
On the cxx0, you can use the fn_1/fn_2 keys to zoom in and out from the smallest font possible right upto \"/home/zaurus\" taking up half the screen!
You can also go full screen by clicking an icon. it is suposed to go fullscreen with fn-5, but I can\'t get this to work with the cacko rom, maybe fn_5 is remapped in this rom???
Either way, to finally get a full screen shell is now possible, makes all my character based apps (slrn) work so much better.
This is the dogs b*ll*cks, if the author reads this, then well done mate, a fine piece of code!
I don\'t know if it works on the sl5x00 range, I may try it later on my 5500.

Someone has used on a 5600, so a 5500 should be fine. I\'m happy with my tabbed opie term.

I just noticed, it\'s the same guy that did qpdf2. Another awesome app.

I like the opie term too, but there\'s one thing that really bugs me about it (at least on the Sharp ROM): The menu key doesn\'t work. It\'s very annoying because I can\'t switch fonts or tabs without pulling the stylus out.
-
If it had uft8 support THEN it would be the best app ever - at present it is a very good improvement over the standard embeddedkonsole, but the tw version is still my current favorite due to the ability to change encoding.

i\'ve managed to use it on my 5500 with OZ 3.3.5.
It works good enough, even if it has some weirdness with fonts... Ah, BTW, i had to manually create /dev/ttya*
mknod /dev/ttya0 c 3 176; mknod /dev/ttya1 c 3 177 ;mknod /dev/ttya2 c 3 178 ... and so on... but i suppose it is an OZ bug...

Looked good until I tried editing a file with vi: ESC (Cancel) caused qkonsole to exit and left my vi session hanging!!

fn+del seems to work for getting out of insert mode in vi. I also noticed it toggled upper and lower case as well.
-
I had not tried vi, so was unaware that the cancel button (esc) quit the app.
I also use autocomplete a lot wich is two esc\'s. Hmm that does lower it\'s usability somewhat.

woops! FN+Cancel seems to be the answer to the esc character

Don\'t mind my previous posts in this thread. I think I\'ve been at work too long. None of those key combos are the true answer

FN+Cancel seems to be the answer to the esc character
Doesn\'t seem to work for me on the cacko rom on my 760. It still exits the app.
I have mailed the author about this, I don\'t see what is so hard about typing exit.
I like the fnc+n for a new terminal, and fnc+s to switch between them.
Even if you do have another key mapped for esc, I don\'t like the fact that accidentally pressing cancel just dumps the whole lot.
I will let you konw when he replies.
Edit, I have just discovered that cancel works as escape just fine when in full screen mode. This is probably why I didn\'t discover this earlier.
I like the fulscreen mode, and only really use it in this mode anyway.

The author, hadn\'t noticed this as he uses it fullscreen too, he has fixed the problem and emailed me a new ipkg to test which seems to be working fine.

Peter,
Do you know when he will be posting the new ipk? I have the same esc problem and want to keep using Qkonsole.
Thanks,

Yes, and ctrl-d is even easier...

I just installed Qkonsole on my 5500 and it looks interesting.
Been following this thread on gentoo.org:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=3...=dvorak&start=0 (http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=39660&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=dvorak&start=0)
on console only aps and was starting to think about making my Zaurus like that (does anyone know if you can make the console on the Zaurus rotate, or do you need Qt for that?)
Qkonsole in full screen mode is a nice alternative.
Thanks to Giorgio\'s post on creating /dev/ttya0 through ----what? I stopped at 8, looking at
/dev/tty for my example. Taking advantage of the opportunity to learn some Linux, what exactly did I do here, and why was 8 the right place to stop?
Curiously, it sees my Chinese fonts, but when I try to type something with CKeyboard, I still see questionmarks. This would be quite the ap indeed if it could handle the input fonts like my
QpZidian dictionary can.

I am unsure when he will relase the new ipk, I have version 0.93.
There is a simple workaround for now, go into fullscreen mode, then the problem goes away, even if you go back to the windowed mode.
I don\'t want to upload the version he sent me without his knowledge or agreement.
Peter,
-
I installed the freely available v0.9.2 yesterday on my C760, but it started just like an 5x00 app in portrait mode with all icons in the task bar in low res. And there was no way to rotate back. Did I do something wrong? Or will I just have to wait until 0.9.3 becomes available to the public?
Regards
Peter

Just unclick magnified mode (tap and hold on the qconsole icon)

Thanks, will try when my Z awakes from the coma I sent him too this morning

Just to let you know, the sourceforge page now has the fixed release of qkonsole.

Hello,
Can qkonsole be used in landscape mode? I started it with screen in landscape config but
the app shows up in portrait mode. Thanks.

Curious that the same question and answer were only posted 4 days earlier in this same thread. laziness

Yes, there is lot of it on this board
Seems that few people bothers to use the search function before posting here.

Sorry about my faux pas guys. Actually I do use the search function quite often
but do admit being lazy sometimes.

Hi,
Still very new to the Z. I just flashed sharp rom 1.32 and then installed Qkonsole 0.9.3 today. Everything works well but even with the font set to 12 and the highest of the 3 zoom levels that seem to be available, the font is still too small. I have poor eyesight so any help in getting a larger displayed font in this application (or any other apps or system SW for that matter) will be a great help.
Thanks,
ST

I\'m running qkonsole on a 5600 and all is fine except that for some reason it doesn\'t inherit my .bashrc right away. I have to run \'bash\' at the commandline to get it to work out that I have a /home/zaurus/.bashrc file with alias l=\'ls -l\'. Strange! Any suggestions?
-
In your /etc/passwd file, change the shell for the user \"zaurus\" from /bin/sh to /bin/bash. On a linux box, one can do this simply with the command chsh, but that doesn\'t appear to be present on my 5500 (ROM 3.13). You will need root privileges to change the passwd file.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for this thread! I just installed qkonsole_0.9.3-20040205_arm.ipk after having a minor problem with opie-konsole. It looks and works great!
-
Thankfully we merged all the changes back which will appear in Opie 1.2
-
I have run into a minor problem with qkonsole_0.9.3-20040205_arm.ipk.
I tried to add a command to the drop-down list. It\'s a long command, which is why I wanted it automated so I wouldn\'t have to remember or type it in. it\'s:
slrnpull -d /var/spool/news/slrnpull -h news.mynewsserver.net
The whole thing works, but the display is useless on the 5600. There is of course the vertical scroll bar to see the numerous entries. But when a long entry is made, the display only shows the right side and there\'s no way to scroll horizontally to the left to see the beginning of the line. So all the commands are invisible except the tail end of the long one.
This should either wrap or have a horizontal scroll bar. At least keep it showing the left side so all the commands would be visible. The right side could be guess at with long commands...
I don\'t know how many people would enter such a long command line, but it seems to me that this is what such a thing is useful for. I can type \"ls\"...
Just a comment...

Richs,
I am glad to see you are still using slrn so am I, it has been very usefull.
You can set an environment variable for the host ie export NNTPSERVER=news.mynewsserver.net
slrnpull -d /var/spool/news/slrnpull
The setting of the env variable can be put in your .profile too.
Makes the line a little shorter.
It may also be possible to code the directory in a variable too, I just hit the up arrow a few times as it gets run so often it\'s always in my history.
This doesn\'t answer your initial post, but is a workaround for this particular problem.
Have you tried the full screen mode of qkonsole? it makes slrn much better.
keep hacking.
Peter.
-
\'Course I still use slrn! ;-) Runs great and as long as it\'s set up to delete old posts in a short time frame it works fine. Sure didn\'t take much getting used to either. Now if we could weed out all thosse spam, troll and arhuement posts I\'d be a lot happier ;-)
I used the export command with just slrn (before slrnpull). But isn\'t that temprary? It would only stick for me until I close konsole. Then I had to do it again.
Now .profile I never looked into, and will very, very soon! Thanks.
-
In the console, type \"cd\" whithout an argument, this will take you to your home dir. now type \"more .profile\"
You will see other variables being set here, add the slrn variables to this file, it will get run everytime you log in.
if you don\'t know vi, either use another editor, or see below.
copy the file (just in case) \"cp .profile .profile.old\"
\"vi .profile\"
in vi, scroll down to the last line, hit \"o\" to add a new line after the current. Enter NNTPSERVER=news.mynewsserver.net
press the cancel button for escape, enter :wq
to write and quit vi.
You can also use kill files in slrn (they call them score files) once you have set up a scorefile in slrn config file, if you want to kill all messages from a particular poster hit k while reading one of his posts, select f for (from) and follow the prompts. \"Esc 1 k\" will allow you to edit the score file (in vi again) you can kill all messages that contain certain words in the subject as well. If you tel slrnpull to use the same scorefile, it won\'t even download killed posts.
If there is a huge thread which does not interest you, kill the thread, set a time limit of 30 days and you will not see any more messages from that thread.
A bit off topic for this thread, send me a pm if you are struggling.
Peter.
-
Thanks! I hate to admit it, but I tend to use a gui editor :-( The opie advanced editor is great for that kind of stuff because it has a search function and retains permissions, and doesn\'t add a .txt extender... vi I could just never get used to. I do have a memory problem and menus help me a lot, so I usually use pico.
The mods are in but I haven\'t had the time to do testing yet.
Score files? Gees I read about that and it just didn\'t sink in. Exactlly what I need. More than half the posts nowadays are spam and junk. What a shame... Thanks, I\'ll have to go back to the slrn docs and read up on it...
And you\'re right, we should have all this in the slrn thread. Maybe the moderator could move them?
-
I just installed Qkonsole on my SL-5500 with the Sharp 3.10 ROM. I haven\'t done any extensive testing, but the escape (cancel) key in vi seems to work just fine -- both in fullscreen and windowed mode. The cancel key does not exit the app. (It will suspend the device if held down as it normally does.) Qkonsole seems quite usable to me!
-
I believe the cancel/escape key problem was fixed for the .93 version. And I agree, it\'s a great app.
