Title: Windows Movie Maker & .wmv Files
Post by: speculatrix on September 14, 2005, 03:56:08 pm
having used windows media encoder 9 (with the registry hack to enable mp3 audio), I wondered if it'd be possible to create a custom output profile for windows XP's movie maker2.

I found some instructions to do so:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/m...tomprofile.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/expert/customprofile.mspx)

but when I copied over the "zaurus.prx" file, it didn't work - as soon as it tried to write the file, it gave an error suggesting there was a problem such as disk space. Chooosing a different output format worked. I tried a few different settings but each time got the same problem.

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in my .prx files; they're not all that difficult to make.

hmm. well. I reckon it's the registry hack that adds mp3 to windows media encoder's audio codec lists that is causing it.

Meanwhile, I'm finding that ffmpeg on linux is pretty effective for the encoding direct from a recording off miniDV. Seems to give better playback.. but I can't make the Z or my linux install of mplayer play back sound when I use vorbis for audio. ho hum. I'm sure   I'll find it on google.
