Title: Cf Wifi Card, Supported?
Post by: microsoft/linux on September 21, 2005, 08:34:58 pm
Is the SDWCFB-128 CF Wifi card supported? It's the one made by sandisk w/ 128 MB of storage in it as well. Other cards that are compatible? I want a cheap one

Depends on the Linux distribution you want to use it with. It runs fine with OpenZaurus 3.5.3.

how about sharp rom? I'll eventually flash to openzaurus, but when I get mine, it will have sharp rom on it. it should work as a CF card regardless though right?

No. The kernel and driver support on the "real" SharpROM is too limited for this card.

for the stock rom the best card for full functionality is

the ambicom wll1100C-CF

it works perfectly for me

you can also get the Symbol Spectrum24 working but its not 100% supported under the stock rom.

I have all three cards would you believe!

Ambicom is the one I use though

would the one I mentioned work to flash to OZ and then be usable for wifi?

No - to flash Zaurus you need memory card which is ONLY memory card (not combo).

But after you flash OZ that combo card will be usable as wifi.

EDIT: Oh you said "_to_ flash it". No that will definitly not work. How could it? The updater kernel is the same retarded 2.4.[18|20]-embedix as the one used to power the SharpROM

At the moment, just as wireless. Support for multifunction PCMCIA cards is just hitting Linux as we speak. I expect it to work eventually.

did you ever buy this card?  I'm thinking about buying it myself but wanted to hear how well it worked first.

I haven't yet. I still don't have my Z(should be coming from ebay soon). Once I do that, I will probably wait a while before I purchase on. I think these are sold on ebay for like $20.
