I have downloaded a couple of files to my Zaurus from the internet: all are zipped with Winzip.
What program can I use on the Zaurus to unzip them, as I do not want to copy them to my PC first...
I have tried various Zaurus compression programs ( Gzip and similar ), but they did not work.
Any advice would be welcome.
Thank you,
Miklos

you can try the easy route and buy tkczip which i have for the c1000 version tkczip-c7xx. works like winzip but towned down. I havent met a zip i cant extract. www.thekompany.com
or you can try this one
http://arnaud.rouanet.free.fr/zaurus/ports.html#bzip2 (http://arnaud.rouanet.free.fr/zaurus/ports.html#bzip2)
terminal command based.

I would look for unzip, its a command line dezipper that is pretty easy to use.
All you have to do is type "unzip file.zip".
What ROM are you running? pdaXrom has it in their feed, I am not sure about Cacko, OZ or Stock though.

I've been using the program FileLaunch, which can work as a front end for unzip.

Thank you all. I downloaded bzip - and it works now great.

hmmm..filelauncher and unzip.
unzip seems to be easier to use than bzip2
any comments?

well, bzip2 gives better compression than the pkzip format and as for easier to use, it really depends on what you call easy. both are command line utilities and the syntax can easily be shortened using aliases in linux

This is how I (un)zip :

What program is this? Would it run on my C3100 with Cacko rom?

It's xfe (x file manager) running on pdaxrom.
I think it's available for debian, so if you install x/qt - pocketworkstation, it could work. I didn't test it. Maybe you could even run it directly with x/qt, but I don't know anything about that.

Have you actually gotten bzip to unzip zip files from WinZip? How so? I don't think it works with zip files. It merely compresses/decompresses files, like gzip, , as far as I can tell. Am I mistaken?
Cheers,
Peter

unzip*.ipk do a google search it exists.

unzip is in the cacko feed or the openzaurus.org/feed feed or both. I think it is already in cacko 1.23 without having to add.

Anyone able to run unzip from a click on a file? Iv tried creating a .desktop with unzip %1 but no luck. The "app" launches but doesnt unzip
Obviously Im trying to do this as if I was running Windows so its probably the wrong way to start. (let me tell you how long my first C prog took when crossing over from pascal)
Any ideas / abuse welcome

zipit (A java zip gui) is available via elsix --it says the link is broken, but I got a copy yesterday. I haven't played with it much yet, but it can be listed as an application to send a file to in tree explorer
