There is a lot of fire power packed into this little unit, not much larger than the Z clamshell. I know the cost may be prohibitive and the battery life will probably be a bit of a disappointment, but man is this a nice set of features in a handheld device.
Wonder if you can install a full version of Linux?

I know you'd be able to load Linux on it.
But would the manufacturer provide the unit without an OS pre-loaded?
-
nop you must have shity Windows XP and it`s not cheap

Can't wait to get my hands on one of those. Been waiting for the older model to arrive for weeks but I am gonna wait for this new model since I already waited so long for delivery I might as well wait another month or two. Guess this means I have to update myOQO page
-
meanie, does that mean you'll be selling your 3000 to have some spare cash?
-
why must you all do this to me... why why why... grrrrrrr.... technolust... growing... must... have... o... q... o.. 01+ ... how... to... explain... to... wife.....
ok ok, so I'm not married but I do have people I work for that seem to like ribbing me concerning my growing number of laptops and handheld devices... *wipes drool* hmm.. nice... now they've answered my original problems with the OQO... mainly the 256mb ram, usb 1.1 only, and 20gb hd.... now i can't really say anything except no 802.11g hehe... or a/b/g for that matter...
hmm.. now I have to think long and hard about this one...

no, i will of course keep the c3000 it is my stable mini work laptop and once i get it back it will continue its role as that. then i will use my 3100 as a dev/play/experimentation box for hacking around and trying out other roms such as pdaxrom, etc.. can't wait till i have c3000, c3100 and oqo. then i will wreck havoc and start warpathing and distributed attacks with my mini army of mini laptops
as for cash reserves, well, i don't have a problem there. i just have a moral principle that refuses to pay ripoff prices for things that are not worth the amount asked for. the oqo is such a case at the moment. i have the money, but i refuse to pay what they are currently asking for it. i don't think it is worth that much and thus i will not buy it until the price is more reasonable. i rather buy another 4 zauris for that price than the oqo at the moment.

I hear you on that one Meanie. The prices are ridiculous. But, I suppose they end up having to charge a bit more than they'd like even as they're a smaller company having to try and do all the R&D on their own.
Hmm... wonder if I could get my hands on one after they go out of business... hehe..

I had originally wanted an OQO, before I read a lot about them and learned about the problems that existed with the model 01. In short:
1. The digitizer doesn't work well, especially near the edges of the screen
2. It gets pretty hot during use
3. It lasts less than 3 hours on batteries
4. The wireless range used to be terrible (this has apparently been fixed with the latest 01s and they are offering to fix older ones as well)
5. It's pretty slow
6. A number of people have had quality issues that have caused them to return their units several times over.
Some of these problems seem to have been addressed with the new model:
1. I hear that they have moved the edges of the screen somehow so that the digitizer works better. Not sure to what extent this fixes the problem.
2. Probably no change.
3. No change, but there is going to be a high capacity battery coming out at least.
4. Already fixed with the 01 as well as the 01+
5. Fixed by the addition of more RAM, at least to some extent.
6. Not sure if there will be any difference in quality. To be fair, from what I read OQO is responsive in taking care of their customer's problems, but it sounds like they haven't worked all bugs out yet.
The addition of more hard disk space and USB 2 is also a nice bonus, but when you get right down to it, it's just too much money for what it is, even if it didn't have any of the problems I mention. As I posted over on the handtops.com forums, if they could bring the price down to the level of a high-end PDA (or at least sub-$1000), I think they would really have something. But until that happens, the only people who will have it will be rich early adopters.
Anyway, while I was researching the OQO, I remembered about the Zaurus and discovered that I could buy 3 of them for less than the price of one OQO... The rest, as they say, is history. I'm still looking forward to the model 02. Maybe by that time it will have improved enough to make it truly worth the money, or they will have figured out how to lower the price a bit. Or maybe Apple will have finally come out with some sort of handtop and I can't forget about the OQO all together

I just received my OQO 01+ and it's a decent little unit. So far I much prefer the keyboard on my C1000 to the OQO. I do really like the ability to plug in the adapter and connect a mouse, monitor and keyboard.
Now I need to spend some time to get linux on it and I'll be real happy.

ORG, once you get familiar with your new gadget would you give us a comparison review of the OQO vs the C1000? I'm especially interested in the responsiveness of the software applications (launching, using, any noticable slow down with multiple apps open, etc.).
The OQO has many of the features I hope to see Sharp put in the next Z, which I hope is not to far off in the future.

A recent episode of Digital Life TV (Ep 11) showed the 01+.
You can check it out at www.dl.tv

offroadgeek,
can you please post pictures of your zaurus and oqo side-to-side, open and closed, and comment on screen difference between both?
Thnaks.

yes, it's got a great spec, but only prototypes exist, so it might as well be vapourware.

Has the product quality of the 01+ model improved over the 01 model? They had many quality issues and shipped faulty units that had to be replaced. I am a bit weary about buying american products due to their consistent low manufacturing quality. I have a friend who bought a laptop from the US and had it replaced 5 times already. Although the warranty is good and they do replace the faulty parts, it is a big hassle to constantly having to send the unit back to the US and waiting for it to be replaced/repaired. Can't afford that for a business critical device such as a laptop or OQO.
Well, been waiting for 2 months already and still haven't gotten my OQO yet
Maybe I should stop using expansys and order from oqo directly...
I think the biggest problem with OQO beside their ridiculous price is their inability to supply the units in a timely manner. Their distribution system is almost non existant and they appear to be out of stock all the time. Also, they are illegally forcing you to purchase windows xp with their unit but maybe it is legal where they are based (california).
