Title: "translator" App Not Working - Ej Dict Not Exists
Post by: jfs.w on September 27, 2005, 01:39:13 pm
anybody encountered this error before? this is from a fresh 3100, with the only customizations being those from hluc's site, which is supposed to keep the dictionary around! so what gives?

sorry - to be more specific, when i click on "Translator", i get a messagebox with the message "EJ Dict not exists". I click on "OK", and i can get into the app, but attempting to do any translation will result in either "JE Dict not exists", or the "EJ Dict not exists".

Do you have the translator dictionary files installed?

They should be on your CD. They came pre-installed onthe C860 but not sure about the C3100K (for some reason it didn't ship with the C1K).

Open up Add/Remove programs and see if they are installed - called Translator-ej and translator-je from a very questionable memory

hm, apparently they are not!!

sorry about this, but how do i install them? I am taking a look at cd1 now, and there are a lot of files in /cdrom/dict1/translator (i assume this should be the correct dir). Just how exactly do i install these files? Would appreciate any help i can get (i wish to learn more Japanese!!)

The dictionary files should be located on /hdd3/dict1 and /hdd3/dict2
They are there by default, ie if you first open your C3100, they are there, but if you do a factory reset, then the files are gone and you need to copy them back from CD1 (contains dict1) and CD2 (contains dict2)
Obviously, the C1000 does not have /hdd3 and thus has no dictionary (besides, it does not have the space for it since the size of the dictionary is about 800MB)
and btw, there is nothing wrong with my package. it does not remove those files. i just installed them myself on my new 3100 and i have no problems with the dictionay or translator.
one thing i would do is to change the order of the dictionaries, put genius as the first book so you get the cute japanese sounds

btw, sorry, Meanie, if my post in any way implied that it was ur fault that i couldnt find the dictionary. Anyway, while we're at it, is there anything else that a fresh /hdd3 should have that is wiped out by a factory reset?

there is this Contents_Files directory under /hdd3/Documents that is on the third CD
You might have to install the applications from the first CD as well. I am not sure if they get restore or you have to reinstall them yourself since I have not yet had to restore my shiny new C3100 yet
