Help!!! Need to know if there is an app like Opie Today that works with the Sharp 3:10 Rom.
Thanks
-
Assuming dlarue\'s dtm decoding program(s?) can be adapted easily enough, it shouldn\'t take too much effort to alter opie-today to use this with the dtm databases rather than the xml storage which opie currently uses.

Please, Please, Please. . .
Is that enough begging and groveling (if not, I can do more  )
I would love to see a today screen for the Sharp 3.10 rom.

I\'m currently install all these packages to implement opie-today on my SL5500 with sharprom 3.13. It should work on 3.10 rom as well. The requirement is, you got to use xml file for your PIM data, application likes tkc PIM, opie PIM, should work fine with today, and it should also solve some of the syncing problem, what I means is, you use back 2.x rom syncing method, anyway, I don\'t do syncing with outlook, PC. Someone got to try-it out.

After installing all these, you needs to restart qtopia and configure in the plugin for opie-today, you will notice that opie-today.desktop is put in other separate tab(1Pim) without the tab icon, just use Tab-Setting in Setting tab to assgin one to it. Also note that I\'m using opie-todo to work with my opie-today, this is just my requirement, you can try out other opie pim, btw, i have not test out the weakther function. Pls feedback to this board if it work.
In the end of these, you got a beautiful TODAY, just same as the palm/openzaurus today with reminder work in every morning or resume power-off for more than 45 minutes.
Happy Today.
one side-note: upgrade to 3.13 sharperom if is possible, it solve double reboot problem, I have testout and confirm the problem solved.

dlarue\'s proggies exported an xml file from the dtm database (IIRC). It should be easy enough to stick a script in which first uses his program to export the xml file to a temp location and then start the opie-today app.

I Installed all packages as instructed by John Bull above except sudo as the link appears to be broken, but this dies not seem to be necessary on tkc rom as it runs as root anyway.
In order to get my pims reading what I sync from Outlook I had to uninstall the Sharp-pims and reinstall them again last so that they are working on top of the opie apps.
Today now opens, reads my personal details and provides a link to the pims but does not appear to read the details properly, ie. says \"No appointments today\" when there are 2. Any help/pointers to get it to work properly would be greatfully received.
However, BIG PROBLEM, I can\'t suspend now. The only way I can turn it off is to flip the switch and do a soft reset. Then saturday without rebooting it turned itself on in the middle of the night and drained the battery.
I have tried uninstalling the two susp related apps but this makes no difference. Please help.
-
Sorry about the above my sig didn\'t go on. I have a 5500 using tkc rom 1.0. It\'s not a critical app and I could live without it. But restoring suspend without having to do a hard reset and then installing everything again from scratch would save a few hours of fiddling when I would still be available to talk to my family.
Thanks,
Charlie

The suspend problem is probably to do with these two files:
http://www.cpinkney.org.uk/susp-resume_0.9-3.1.ipk (http://www.cpinkney.org.uk/susp-resume_0.9-3.1.ipk)
http://www.cpinkney.org.uk/susp-resume-today_0.9.1.ipk (http://www.cpinkney.org.uk/susp-resume-today_0.9.1.ipk)
I don\'t know what they do.
Opie today cannot read from the dtm database. You now have a working opie-today though. Now download dlarue\'s dtm-]xml convertor, create a script which is run in place of opie-today (alter the .desktop file) and make it first run the convertor, then copy the created xml file(s) to /root/Applications/datebook and so on, then make it start opie-today.
That\'s what I\'d try anyway.

Thanks Si.
I\'ll try that, is there a link to the converter?
It\'s the suspend issue that is the big problem. Uninstalling those two programs makes no difference. Presumably I could go through the Terminal to point it back to the suspend if I knew how to do it.
Thanks

Take a look inside those ipks and see what they did (rename to tar.gz and uncompress them).
Not sure about a link, but try searching for posts by dlarue, or look on the devnet mirror in the Linux apps bit (again dlarue).

Anyone working on this?

Hi,
To my understanding of this opie-today. She is working in this way, opie-today get her xml data from each apllication directory that she pre-defined, I think is hard coded in the plugin. For todolist plugin, she is get from /home/zaurus/Applications/todolist/todolist.xml, I have soft link this file to my SD card, so that I can resume my todolist after each hard reset.
For sharprom 3.x PIM user, the stockrom PIM store its data in its new dtm format and in one directory /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm/, you can\'t use opie-today without any conversion, like lardman saying, a converter that export dtm database to xml file and that file needs to rename to opie-today pre-defined and placed into correct directory, then opie-today will function as normal.
For sharprom 2.x PIM, opie PIM/ tkc PIM user, all these are taking care-off, should not have any problem running opie-today. Like me, 3.x rom user but I\'m using opie-todo to override stockrom todo. I\'m also OK running this opie-today. I hope this explanation did highlight some point to all.
Charlie, I\'m sorry about your matter, probably caused by my explaination not in detail, the following link did explain Suspend/Resume Script Architecture, look into it and you should able to revert back to normal.

The idea of Opie Today is that it is a quick lookup of a summary of your PIM data, so I think a script to convert your DTM data to XML would be too slow. Someone who has the time needs to hack the PIM plugins to use the code from dtm2xml so that it accesses the DTM databases directly. Qtopia fast load support would be nice too
As for the Suspend/Resume stuff, it\'s not working because the sudo package is required. I guess Newkirk has moved on from the Zaurus or something. I don\'t know why uninstalling those packages did not correct things as I tested that on my Zaurus. To fix the suspending, you probably need to run the following commands in the terminal:
su (If this asks for a password it will either be blank or it will be the same as your passcode)
cd /usr/local/bin
rm apm
ln -s /usr/local.rom/bin/apm
I\'ll upload the sudo package to the ZUG downloads.

I think it would really make more sense to adapt opie-today to read from DTM instead of dealing with conversion scripts.
-
Thanks for the help Si, I can now turn off my Z.

So, has anyone made any progress with this? I have Today running fine--but I need info on the dtm2xml scripts.
-
Changing Today to read from dtm sounds great, but is anyone actually working on it? Or, how does one get started on it?
-
Since today uses the PIM backend from libopie1, you could try adding DTM capability to the PIM classes in libopie1. This way, all PIM applications would benefit from it.
Even better would be to look into libopie2 where we already have abstractions for different backend. Contact opie-devel@handhelds.org if you want to work on this.
-
Does anyone have a copy of the dtm2xml scripts?
I haven\'t been able to find them.
Thanks.

would it be easier to just code another program? It would be coolest if it was just another tab with the same background as the lancher.
-
I think the idea of having it as a tab would be great. This is the only thing I can think of that I really need for my Z. Would it help if I begged and grovelled a bit...
-
would it be easier to just code another program?
No. A lot of effort went into decoding the DTM format and I for one have no desire (or need) to do all of that again.
I don\'t know about the tab-based suggestion, I\'m quite happy having opie-today as an application and if you really want it\'s possible to make it launch at startup (which is effectively what you\'re after I suppose?).

i would also be interested in taking a look at dtm2xml. I am thinking of throwing together a simple syncing system that posts my PIM data to a webserver.
Any info on dtm2xml would be helpful.
Thanks.
