Title: Power Socket/plug/connector Name
Post by: systemparadox on October 05, 2005, 03:02:12 pm
Hi.
Does the power socket/plug/connector that all the zaurii use have a name? Is it a standard adapter used with other things? What do I ask for if I want one? Does anyone know of any other devices/power units that use that connector?

At the moment the main purpose of this knowledge is I want to buy a USB 2.5" HDD case which uses the same power connector as the Z. That way I can use my battery extender with the HDD case, and I get a USB to [Z power connector] cable which I can use with my travel kit to charge my 6000L (Thanks a bunch sharp- I can't use the keyboard with the 6k plugged in ).

Thanks
Simon

According to the box from a compatable connector from Radio Shack, it is a Coax-Style DC power plug/socket 4.0mm O.D., 1.7mm I.D..

Many different devices uses the same connector, and often the same voltage. Most notable is the Sony PSP which uses the same connector and voltage, so external batteries, USB power adapters and car and wall adapters designed for PSP work with Zauruses.

I don't know of any harddisk enclosures that use the same plug, though I haven't looked. However, I do have a couple of enclosures that use an additional USB plug for power. You could either get a USB charge cable for the Z and then a USB wall charger to power both, or rig up an adapter with parts from Radio Shack to make it USB (Coax socket, then a USB socket).
