Hi guys, I hope someone can help me.
I bought a refurbished SL-5500 off Ebay about two weeks ago, and when it arrived it was without the CD, and the Sync Cradle. Eventually, I received the crade from America, but still no CD was supplied. I was instructed to visit the My Zaurus site and download the software from there.
Now this is the part where you must excuse my stupidity/ignorance.
The Zaurus currently has the Sharp ROM 2.38 on it, and I have tried downloading stuff from everywhere to get it to communicate with my PC, but I think that all the versions of Intellisync on the web are for later ROMs and are maybe not compatable with 2.38 ?
I am able to install the NDIS and USB Driver ok, and can ping the Zaurus, but despite trying three different versions of Intellisynce (1.11, 1.43 & s3.xx ??), I cannot sync the thing !
I don't have access to CF Cards so the option of using the ROM upgrade is out.
Am I right in assuming that I need a specific version of Intellisync to work with this ROM (I WILL upgrade this ROM if I ever get the PDA and PC talking) ?
And if so, could some kind soul please point me to a link where I could obtain it ?
I don't want the Zaurus to be a paperweight any longer !
Please help !

Hi there.
You don't need a CF card to update to ROM 3.1 I did it the other day with no problems. It's when you want to flash the ROM to Opie or OZ that you need a CF card.

Hi Dreyvin, thanks for replying.
From your posting, I'm not sure if you understand my problem.
I don't know if the various software I have downloaded will work together and I am unable to synchronise my SL-5500 using the Cradle.
I have access to SD Cards, but have read that I can't flash the device from an SD Card, only a CF Card.
As an aside, my Zaurus doen't have the "PC Link" icon in "Settings" . Is this not included in the 2.38 ROM ?
Where can I find PC Link ?
Cheers,
Richard

The instructions and files you need to synchronize and transfer files to your installed Rom are here:
http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate3.asp (http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate3.asp)
The instructions and files to upgrade are here:

That's all I can help you with because it's been a very long time since I've used that Rom.

Guys, what can I say but very many thanks to you both.
Dreyvin, your willingness to reply was much appreciated.
Greg 2, the link you posted -

worked a treat !!!
I can't explain how despite trawling the web for 5 or 6 nights, I was unable to find this link !!!
Thankfully, I now have a fully Sync'ed Z, which can at last start to perform some of it's PDA functions. And as I now have two way communication with the thing, I can finally upgrade the ROM to make things even better.
Once again guys, thanks for very much for your expert assistance to a newbie.
What a great website/forum/community this is.
Thanks
