http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-C1000-C31...kita.zip.md5sum (http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-C1000-C3100/kathrin-rc12-akita.zip.md5sum)
http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-C1000-C3100/feed/ (http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-C1000-C3100/feed/)
!!! Feed includes only basic applications which installed in the ROM and optimized stuff, for others use RC11 feed.
What news:
iwmmx support in the kernel
overlay driver
iwmmx support in mplayer (http://atty.skr.jp/?Zaurus%2Fmplayer) and ffmpeg
SDL updated and fixed for Cxx00 framebuffer, 320x240 mode aded
USBDConfig updated
CPU Config added (PXA270 overclock stuff)
X11 with touch screen and mouse support
xrandr support in X11 (Zoom in/out keys work)
Quake2 added n feed
Abiword updated
For RC11 users who unline install new ROM:
Use http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-C1000-C31...c11-rc12.tar.gz (http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-C1000-C3100/old/iwmmx-upgrade-rc11-rc12.tar.gz) for update X11, kernel modules. Simply extract files in root partition.
Than with RC12 updater.sh and tools.tar (initrd.bin not need) install new kernel.
Of course, this way will update only iwmmx support for applications from RC12 feed (new mplayer, ffmpeg, quake2 etc).
---
litlhelp:
1)
play video with mplayer with overlay:
mplayer -ao oss -vo bvdd:rotate=-1 -vm video.avi
Use overclock for increase performance
Note:
in non X11 console possible kernel panic because framebuffer console driver unlike 320x240 mode, if you still need it , redirect mplayer messages to /dev/null (no any messages on console in 320x240 mode)
2)
For Quake2 play need install pak0.pak in /usr/share/quake2/baseq2
Use overclock for increase performance because sources still need better optimization
3)
I cannot resume my zaurus!!!
Be patience - do not press ON/OFF often than one in 10 sec. During suspend/resume system will stop/start system applications, that take some time.
---
Todo:
New mount applet
Package manager
Testing usbd storage mode
More testing on C3100

"kill" someone,again.

Great news, indeed! Is new overclocking application available from the feed?
On a side note, looks like I found a bug which prevents resuming by RTC alarm in pxa27 kernel code. Obviously, kernel needs to be re-compiled to fix it. I'll post more details and a patch later tonight.

I guess i have to buy a 1000 now. Is it really possible to play quake 2 on it? I mean is it worth trying? That would rock. I might get rid of my 6000 if quake were to work well on the c1000/c3100 line.
-
thank you sashz, installing now RC12 from scatch now.
-
Is it support locale & i18n ?

Sash,
Do any libs need to be updated along with the new X server binary? I've replaced the X server binary on C1K, but touchscreen doesn't seem to work any more? Any idea what it could be?

Thanks a lot
and thanks for the USB config and all the CF
is there any change to the mount of the internal drive (C3100)?

I'm using C1000. Appreciated to have the overclock function! Great work! Thank so much!
One minor issue. I noticed every time I reboot the Z, the touchscreen/pointer need re-calibrate... by manually deleting the /etc/pointercal. Anyone has the same? I dont have the issue with RC10 and RC11.
-
well, after a fresh install, vnc still refuses to work in RC12 on my SL-C1000. I will have to revert back to RC 10.4 :-(

Further test find out that the cursor always gets 'outsync' with the touchscreen. Within matchbox, I can get rid of that by zoom in followed by zoom out immediately. Within Xfce4, however, the zoom in/out doesn't work (Fn+2 and Fn+1) and so I can't use Xfce4. Will it be the xrandr issue?

Tks Sashz. I've added this in xinitrc.xfce4 and it works.
Is the bug RC12 specific? (I didn't have such in RC10 and RC11). If so, can/will it be fixed in the official release?

Has anyone had any luck with a USB keyboard?
I've got a USB stowaway (Fellowes) that doesn seem to work. dmesg picks it up properly but I don't get any results from keypresses. I tried playing around with the USB config but no luck. This is on a C1000 with a freshly flashed rc12.
I'm loving this RC otherwise though. Sash and Laze, you guys are amazing!
-
a few testings
i had to change the rotate.sh script xrandr -o left by xrandr - right
new Abiword is nice
It seems the autonomy is drastically reduced in comparaison with the sharp rom, but maybe it is an idea, i'll look further
I think there are no differences for the hard disk mounting, i've so removed the automount (no test)
if you need special tests for the mounting on the 3100, i can do it

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=98593\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I mean I didnt have such misalignment issue with RC10 and RC11. The zoom in/out facilities works only in RC12.
-
Right now it's impossible to run X as a non-root user, because the calibration is horribly off toward the lower-left.
Maybe you could have xrandr run suid by default, so that auto-rotation would work? Ditto inputconfig.py, lightnpower.py, etc.
That'd make the lives of people who don't want to use the root account for everything easier.
Please also update /usr/share/terminfo ... The current terminal choices are terrible. Aterm should use "xterm-color", and the normal terminal should be something standard, not "builtin_ansi", which vim doesn't recognize.
Overall, I'm pleased with this release. Everything works to some degree out of the box, and the bvdd video driver gives MUCH better performance than SDL.
However, it annoys me that I have to do so much hacking around to get basic system functionality because of the poor quality of the included scripts (setting a PKG_CONFIG_PATH, altering the PATH to include gcc executables, setting CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS, etc.) and the lack of some essential utilities (for a device like this, is there ANY reason not to have "less" and "locate" installed? You could take out dillo2 and put in perl... I mean, why have three web browsers and no copy of the essential scripting language?)
In addition, you're missing one of the most basic parts of a PDA distribution: handwriting recognition. Xstroke or the like should be integrated and always available.
-
Borealid,
Do you mean that screen auto-rotation works for non-root users? I can't seem to get in working... If you can, I would be very interested to hear how did you do that.
-albertr
-
Auto-rotation doesn't work when for users. I think the problem is the privileges - running "sudo rotate.sh" works when you're not root. That's why I recommended xrandr being setuid root.
-
Umm, now I'm confused. I'm running rc11, and my X server is suid root. `xrandr -o normal` and
`xrandr -o left` both work fine without needing xrandr to be suid root.
What doesn't work for me is automatic screen rotation if I'm a non-root user, i.e. when I rotate the hinge X server doesn't rotate the screen. Does anyone know how X server detects hinge rotation? I'm aware of /dev/apm_bios ioctl(), but I guess there should be some callback call too?

Wow, the fixed mplayer using Sashz options is so cool. It's the first I can watch a smooth fullscreen movie on my Z.
Also USB storage works very well now.
New abiword is really nice.
Thanks so much Sashz

OK, RC12 comes with no mplayer preinstalled.
So did you install it :
- from RC12 feed ?
- from "http://atty.skr.jp/?Zaurus%2Fmplayer" ?
=> mplayer-bvdd-iwmmxt_1.1.5-1_arm.ipk or mplayer-bvdd_1.1.5-1_arm.ipk
Did you install bvdd too ?
=> "vdd_0.4.0-1_arm.ipk on "http://atty.skr.jp/?Zaurus%2Fmplayer"
Sorry for all my questions but it would be so cool to play fullscreen movies
Thanks.

Sorry for stupid question - but it's still unclear for me...
Have anybody succesfully loaded RC12 on 3100?
I see only 1000 in signatures...

Hm... some issues:
Problems with calibration of touchscreen in xfce4 (looks as it isn't calibrated normaly. When you touch center of the screen cursor moves almost to left down corner... and if you touch screen with stylus before Matchbox fully loaded this "bug" will be until next restart...)
modprobe mousedev >/dev/null 2>/dev/null
After adding this to startxfce4 all became normal.
P.S. At last Q1 is fullscreen!
P.S.S. And why there is no xrandr -s 1 in quake2 ? I think It'll be usefull to add this lines as in runquake.sh. And maybe some script to automaticly overclock CPU of Z befor running quake2 ?

This is what I've talked about. See post #18. As a workaround, I've added
xrandr -s 0
in xinitrc.xfce4. Sashz is going to take care of that bug.

in xinitrc.xfce4. Sashz is going to take care of that bug.
K ) But this (see above) is solution to this problem too (as I think)...
P.S. Video is almost fine (640x480)... Without audio - almost normal (~260MB,640x480, 860KBit/sec. But only with -vo bvdd -ni -forceidx -mc 0 -cache 8192 -nobps )... with audio - ... (this videofile, but with audio - 128Kbit 44KHz Stereo). Maybe it's becouse of XviD...

Is a bug with hdd/suspend still here?
yes ((

Overclocked, the desktop flickers. Not the task that is going on, but if the Zaurus processor isn't busy enough, the desktop flickers (in XFCE4 anyway).
Other than that, I am quite happy. What is your recommendation for the movie format (fps, ###x###, .avi, .mpeg??) Any change of getting zoom in XFCE4?
Thanks!!

what problem with C3100 HD suspend? details please.
one tester with 3100 say me there no problem, but he uses one big partiton on hd
-
sashz
As in older releases...
Other partitions doesn't mount automaticly (not suspend problem but with hdd)
When you press On/Off after Z turns off Display sometimes it doesn't turn it on... (but if you umount hda1 first all will be normal)
If you have 2 mounted HDD partition (e.g. hda1 as /mnt/ide and hda2 as /mnt/ide2) after suspend only last will be mounted... and for me (i've just tried it) after suspend you can't use mount with /dev/hda1 (returns I/O Error. Only reboot helps)
-
I'm afraid I may have a bricked C1000. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with this release of pdaxrom, but I did install it last night, just before my Z died. Everything seemed to work very well, but I turned the Z off and left it untill this morning. Now, when I push the on button I get nothing. Only the orange power light. I have tried a reset, and left the batteriers out for a while, and tried again, but still nothing. If anyone has any ideas I would appricated it. Like I said I don't know if the problem was caused by this release or not, but it was the only thing I know of that I did.

if eject internal HD manually before suspend, than resume will ok(and hd partitions mount)?
cardctl eject
-
Ok, good news. About the second I pushed "Add Reply" to my last post, my Z's screen flashed a couple of times, and now I'm sitting at a login promt... No scrolling boot messages, no anything... just a "zaurus login: " at the top of the screen...
Logged in and every thing seems normal... I have no idea what happened. Anyone want to guess?
-

If 2 partitions was mounted - only 1 will be remounted... As without manual eject.
And MC hangs when you are trying to dir /mnt/ide2 (if only 1 partition was mounted - everything seems to be ok)
If you try to mount /dev/hda1 it hangs (after 5 or 6 min returns I/O Error)
-
A couple of things I have run in to.
1. For some reason, the system utils stop opening. I have no idea what causes this but shortly after the flash (and installing some IPKs) I could not open anything in the system menu.
2. Snes9x is throwing up a strange error. when first installed it says it can't find libstdc++.so.5 (dgen throws up the same error btw) so I look on the list in package manager see that libstdcxx is installed. I uninstall it and reinstall it. Dgen then quite happily works (yay) but snes9x now says it can't find libstdc++.so.6 and I have no idea where I can get that.
I use the Z for work so I have switched back to RC11 for the week. Will play with RC12 more next weekend.

When using mplayer with these options:
mplayer -ao oss -vo bvdd:rotate=-1 -vm video.avi
How do I stop the video ?
I tried q as written in the mplayer's help, Ctrl-q, Cancel and other combinations but no go.
I am using ROX desktop combined with openbox(window manager) on C1000.
After the video playback, the desktop is not redrawn well, I have to pass over the screen with the stylus where the desktop is not redrawn to redraw it.
Running Snes9x(from unstable feed) outside X11 is awesome, very fast(still need libstdcxx.so.5 as mentionned earlier).
@F_Sake: the lidstdcxx from rc11 and rc12 feed provides libstdcxx.so.6, if you need libstdcxx.so.5 you have to install libstdcxx from an earlier feed(rc10 I think) so that you will have both of them installed even if they have the same name in the package manager(I think I installed it locally from my CF card using ipkg install The_libstdcxx_file_from_rc10.ipk)

for stop and leave mplayer press ESC key (Cancel) twice.
For refresh X11 screen run: xrefresh
I think better use simple script for mplayer with bvdd driver which will autorefresh X11 screen.

XServer with fixed touchscreen mouse pointer:
download it on Zaurus, ungzip:
gzip -d Xfbdev.gz
leave X11 to console and backup old Xserver:
mv /usr/X11R6/bin/Xfbdev /usr/X11R6/bin/Xfbdev.old
copy new :
cp Xfbdev /usr/X11R6/bin/Xfbdev
change attrib:
chmod 755 /usr/X11R6/bin/Xfbdev
run X11:
startx

I can confirm that touchscreen is fixed now.
Screen auto-rotation still doesn't work for non-root users.
Sash, how the X server detects hidge rotation? Where should I start looking at to find what the problem is?

Basically non-root operation isn't that hard but it hasn't been a high priority for us so far - but based on the number requests for it we might look into it.

Thanks. I was aware of chkhinge, but I didn't know it was called from the kernel code. I'll take a look and try to see why it doesn't work for non-root users.
-albertr
-
Hmm, running `find . -name *.[chS] -exec grep chkhinge {} \; -ls` on sharp kernel source didn't bring anything. Any idea where in the kernel chkhinge is being called from?
-albertr
-
Yes, `chmod u+s /usr/bin/chkhinge` gets screen auto-rotated for non-root users, thanks!
-albertr
-
albertr there is more problems related with non-root users - i will look into it later and will do some more testing.
-
Yes, there're few binaries need to be setuid root, i.e. /sbin/cardctl.
Also, unless you want to permit users to write to /dev/apm_bios, /usr/bin/apm.x and /usr/bin/apmsleep need to be setuid root too.
Some of the shell scripts that need to be run as root, could be changed to invoke sudo first, i.e. "!/usr/bin/sudo /bin/sh".
-albertr
-
By the way, you also forgot to make "su" setuid. This is kind of important, as su obviously can't let you become root unless it has root privileges itself...
This is the cause of "using fallback setuid method" messages.

Impossible to resume with a CF card inserted, the screen is flickering, the Z show the screen and go back to suspend
when you eject the CF card, press twice the power button (one time to "resume" and unmount CF card logically, the Z go itself in suspend, one time to resume really the Z)
so the other "problem" is the assignation of the devices, CF card is /dev/hdc when you boot without CF card and /dev/hda when you boot with a CF card
There is for me another problem in RC12 on 3100, The Autonomy
with sharp rom i've with my utilisation like 8hours of autonomy
with the pdaxrom RC12 and the same utilisation, i've only like 2 hours of autonomy
or maybe it's the batery applet who has a problem, each reboot, the battery status come back to 100% and rapidely decrease
has anybody else the same problem?

plz try suspend/resume, check if harddrive accesible after resume. Try bootup with inserted memory CF and without ) try test more

OK, after suspend/resume things seem to work fine here so far.
There is one thing however: if I boot/reboot with CF in the slot, CF is /dev/hda1, harddisk is /dev/hdc. If I boot without CF in the solt hdd is /dev/hda. As the partitions on hdd are always mounted correctly (/mnt/idex) this is not a problem, I would find it more "logical" if the dev would not change (but maybe that's not possible): say reserve /dev/hda for CF and always put hdd as /dev/hdc. Anyway I probably won't use CFs much as there is the 4GB hdd and even my Linksys wifi card works well so it will live in the slot most of the time.
I did not experience any crash since I installed RC12, but I'll keep you informed if it does happen.

One more problem...
With package manager...
If you install to /mnt/ide - app will fail to start if even one file that it need isn't on /mnt/ide (i think it's becouse package manager doesn't make symlinks to newly installed files)

When using mplayer with these options:
mplayer -ao oss -vo bvdd:rotate=-1 -vm video.avi
How do I stop the video ?
I tried q as written in the mplayer's help, Ctrl-q, Cancel and other combinations but no go.
On my 3100 mplayer seems to react to the device with the red arrows (don't know how to call it precisely). CLicking on the right arrow skips a section of the move, and when it comes to the end mplayer stops. Not a very clean method, but it works. The jogdial seems to have the same effect, but less smooth.
Is there a way to control the sound volume?

i have the same problem with the life of the battery. in sharp rom i had a lot more battery life. in pdaxrom after the battery (seems to) is empty you are not able to turn the zaurus on. but if you plug in the poweradapter and turn the device on now, the zaurus doesnt have to reboot or something like this... it is at the state before the battery (seems to) be empty. this might be a good idea that you cannot turn on the device if the battery is very low... but i think that the battery never gets that low and suspends the zaurus. i think that the zaurus just thinks that the battery gets low and so suspends itself. is there a possibility to turn off this autosuspend when the batter (seems to again) gets empty?

Around 4h of playing in Q1 and Q2 (more then 3h of playing in Q1 and around 30min of Q2) - normal... (And I had around 65% of battery, acording to battery applet)
P.S. Q1 - without overclocking. Q2 - with maximum overclocking

@ tcoulon, for me the Mplayer shortcut keys works if I launch mplayer from the console but when I click on a file from ROX filer using the "set run action" and passing the options to mplayer the keyboard doesn't react while playing the file(even clicking on Cancel twice as Sashz suggested). I have to wait the end of the movie to get the keyboard back responding.
BTW, mplayer shortcut keys are available by typing mplyer in console without any file.
Thanks

- First off, I'm not pdaXRom bashing; the idea of a full X-based Linux distro in my pocket is very attractive!
- I just read this entire thread, and while it looks like pdaXRom folks have done a great job with RC11, I'm still getting the feeling there's some instability there for C1k users. I tried RC10 a while ago and concluded it wasn't stable enough for my tastes.
- Stability is of vital concern to me. I accept that fact that Winbloze goes down like a two-bit night walker on a regular basis, but I will not tolerate that from my PDA. Sharp's ROM may not be the most feature laden, but in my experience it has been rock solid stable. Not as stable as the old Psion line, but pretty darned close, and that's saying something.
- Given this, in the Forum's opinion, is RC11 stable enough to reconsider?

I've made all my test again after your modification, no more problem
all the mountings of the drive are ok, each suspend/resume
with or without a CF card in the drive
and the hard disk is always accessible

hehe i can say that in a day or two, the time to test this config
But visibly, Civil has not this problem, it is maybe machine-based, so... test for yourself
but for me the hdd bug is fixed (long time testing in progress but no problem for now)

My 2 pence worth...
I think RC12 is a really great release. I'd like to see an RC13 where all the tweaks that this thread has uncovered have been included. Some people aren't great at tweaks or that motivated by "install this, then run this scripts and then tweak that, etc." Some people love to faff and play, some people just like to get on with things.
The best way to recommend something is an out of the box fully functional experience and it's getting there :-)
Looking forward to the final release - that's the one that'll hopefully be rock solid.

My opinion is that every system is evolving - towards stability or feature rich or both. Whether the system is stable enough depends heavily on what services one need, so it is subjective.
RC11, as stated, is a candidate only, not a release. Yet I found the RC10.4 and RC11 perfectly stable for what I'm using for - compiling simple progs, text editing, Internet browsing etc.
If you read the thread carefully, though, you will find the RC12 is under testing. So if I use it, I'll further lower my requirement and do what a tester will do.

And, if you don't mind, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring on this... When an RC is declared a basis for a new RC (like moving from RC11 to RC12), it'd be very helpful to have a rollup script/patch that tweaks the RC11 from it's release to the base before RC12 is introduced. Or, is it customary with pdaXrom to consider RC12 the rollup of RC11? It doesn't seem so given the comments in the thread, but I may be mistaken. In any event, it takes a lot of effort and time to read every single post in this thread looking for scripts and patches and workarounds - even a document detailing the scripts and patches and workarounds would be very helpful - like a step-by-step guide to bring RC12 to stability.
Perhaps we could have a 'pinned' thread for each RC that included just the responses with attachments/patches so that someone installing RC12 could go post by post and apply the scripts and patches and workarounds that have been 'approved'...
Seem logical?
TIA,
Stac

Basically just flash each new RC :-) Its way to hard to keep track of etc. - thats why we call them RCs not for 100% stable operation. Secondly it takes me 10 minutes to install all i need when i have flashed so no problems for me ;-)
But yes its hard to keep track because we are making so many new things at once.
-
i have to say that pdaXrom is the best you can give to your pda. since i had rc11 on my c3100 i was so happy with it that i thought that it would be that stupid to get back on sharp rom (even on rc11 are some bugs which are really mindblowing... but the rest of the rom was so great that it compensates this bugs so that they dont bother you really ...). i also have to add that rc11 was my first experience of pdaxrom. on my 860 i had cacko rom 1.22. now i have rc12 on my c3100 (with this fixes described in this thread) and i havent found anymore bugs till now... and now my pda is just great.
the only thing which is negative is the life of the battery. i think it lasts just about 2 - 3 hours (if it does that much). in sharp rom it lasted for ages... i am not able to tell you how much it lasted but i.e. when i was a week on holiday i first watched a whole movie during the flight. in the bus i listened nearly 1 hour of music (with earphones). during the week i watched another movie and also listened to music with the internal speaker... and i listened a lot. i think i charged the battery twice this week. the second time was the night before the flight back (even the battery wasnt empty... but i thought it would be good to have a full loaded pda during the flight and so on).
anyway... GREAT WORK pdaXrom-TEAM!! Really Great!
-
It's interesting that your battery doesn't last longer than 3 hours... I have a C1K, and my battery last at least a couple of days, sometime longer. I dont't use wi-fi networking, but do a fair amount of e-books reading (maybe 4 hr a day) as well as writing/compiling some C programs. I.e. I've installed OpenBSD two times yesterday, but my battery still have 53% charge. The differences between your setup and mine are:
- C3.1K vs C1K
- kernel code
I use my own kernel, with tetsu battery calibration patch, but not sure if it would matter. Stock pdaxrom kernel might be using the same patch as well.
-albertr
-
We are looking into it maybe related to harddisk stuff - that could also explain why the C1K doesn't have problems :-)
-
Where can I get the RC12 kernel source?
I've been trying for a few hours to compile a new version of fuse (I know it says that it only supports >=2.4.21, which is one revision newer than the current kernel, but it could still work). I compiled fuse 2.4 successfully against the stock Sharp kernel for the SL-C3100, but when I go to insert the module it fails, because it can't find the correct kernel version.
Could you please either:
(1) Include or make available fuse >= 2.2
(2) Make the source of the RC12 kernel available and I'll compile fuse against it
or (3) Upgrade PdaXRom to a newer kernel. Obviously, this is the hardest but most rewarding option.
I really do want encfs support. Speaking of which, cryptoloops don't appear to be available; losetup claims that -e is an unrecognized option. Could you please add cryptoloop support in future versions of PdaXRom?
-
Ah, never mind, I didn't realize that the full headers were in the compilation tree...
For those of you who are interested, you can just use --with-kernel=/opt/native/arm/3.4.4-xscale-softvfp/armv5tel-cacko-linux/ and it'll compile for the current kernel. The headers are all there.
I'd still love to see a newer kernel so that I don't have to hack fuse to get it to build, but that'd take significant effort, I know.
-
... But the kernel there, while appearing to be version 2.4.20, also produces code that gripes about an incorrect kernel version.
What's going on here?
-
as i said... before i installed pdaxrom the battery lasted much longer in sharp rom. at least 2 times more (if not more).
it really would be nice to watch what takes that much battery. also i dont know if it is harddisk related because also if i do not mount it the battery doesnt hold much longer.
As i said in a post before i think that the zaurus would have enough battery power but it just thinks that it is low so it auto-suspends itself.
i.e. if in sharp rom the battery was empty and you charged it, then you had to boot the zaurus again. if it (seems to) get empty in pdaXrom it gets into suspend. if you charge the battery now and turn on the zaurus it doesnt have to boot up again because it had enough battery power to just get into suspend. this could be a possibility. maybe if we could turn of this auto-suspend when the battery (seems to) get low we could use the zaurus longer.

Of course that is true Laze - the thing is, that I'm running RC11 pretty successfully right now, and if I want to move to RC12, I'd have to flash, reinstall / apps and then walk through a dozen pages of posts here to tweak it all out. I was thinking that if we had a sticky forum where we could move the posts containing patches/fixes/workarounds it'd make the job of tweaking after flashing much less painful. I'd be willing to do the work if you agree that it's something valuable to the community...

After zooming IN and zooming OUT , it loses some icons in the panel/taskbar (I am using ROX Desktop with matchbox on C1000). This zoom feature is pretty handy, really nice.
If I exit X11 and run startx, all icons come back.
Answering to one of my previous questions about mplayer opened from ROX Filer, I think the mplayer shorcut keys do not work because mplayer doesn't have focus as there is no wondow and it is not run from console.

RC12 on my C1000 seems perfectly stable. Although i haven't researched this; if it would extend battery life i would consider underclocking if it were possible. As primary use for me is telnet/ssh.
One thing i'm having trouble with is locating the kernel source for this, as i'm having trouble with Planex GW-CF11X, prism3 i believe.

please do post what steps you would have to go through to go from rc11 to rc12 -- it could only lead to the number of steps getting smaller and smaller :->

Well I think the thread is quite clear that the RC12 is testing one, and everyone joining is supposed to be a beta tester?
So if the RC12 goes official, I don't think you need to walk through the posts and tweak
-
Basically almost all posted tweaks and ideas go into the next RC automatically.

Is there a list of these anywhere online or part of a changelog?
Will there be a pdaXrom project roadmap/timeline with goals posted online at any point? Would be cool to see where this is all going and people might be inspired to a. help more and b. contribute more money and c. suggest ideas and enhancements.
-
lol, your funny omro, were hackers(not in the sense of hacking servers) be lucky if we can remember what we did one hour ago let alone some sort of organization. BTW pdaXguys, excellent job on the latest RC, you got alot of problems solved in quick order, quicker than most multi million dollar business's solver simpler problems
-
I try to keep a changelog and post it everytime - zumi has also posted in on the site.
Roadmap: What??? We are driving blind - basically we are trying to solve everything in the bugreporting system and add all the features people are asking for.

You make this good,

I understand.
Do you plan to stop, take a breather, stop adding features and tidy up the realease that you have so we have a recent stable release that people can say Ok, that's solid, has no (major) bugs and they can work from that point?
Also just curious, is the live CD that allows you to compile apps for your Z running pdaXrom nearly ready? I'd love to try compiling an app, just to see if I can do it,
-
omro - yes at the moment we are finishing up adding new features and try to get it 100% stable.

Were ipkg scripts fixed in rc12 to support installation, linking and removal on harddrive (/mnt/ide3)?
Sorry I do not have rc12 installed (I only have rc11) and I did some fixes on the RC11 ipkg scripts to allow linking and removal in any folder from /mnt and to get rid of "cannot change ownership" error but I don't know where to post them.

I second that request.
Now, I tried overclocking, at 520MHz all works fine but if I set 624MHz applications such as mplayer or alephone close unexpectedly. I was told to change also the core voltage but
a. I don't how to do it
b. I thought that the change of the core voltage was automatically done when setting the new CPU frequency
Is it my CPU (I mean my CPU doesn't support it) or can I make work ?
Thanks
-
the cpu has to support this because the pxa27x are built for speeds from 3xxMHz to 416MHz to 520 and 624... this is always the same cpu. so the people who develop and build the pdas have to choose something between: battery lifetime / speed / and heat. because the higer the clock is the more current the cpu needs and also the more heat it produces.
BUT the only problem is that the other hardware (ram... etc) inside of the pda MAYBE are not built for this speeds (like you can see the screenflickering).
I am also not able to run some applications with 624MHz (but i also dunno how to change the Vcore).

I am noticing the same problem with installing to /mnt/ide3 on my c3100. I tried to install mplayer there but it couldn't find a shared library when I tried to run it and failed.
I am also noticing that my /home directory is reading 100% full when I check with df. Is this going to be a problem? I partitioned for 120mb root which apparently left only 1mb for the home directory. Should I partition this differently? Is there a way to put the /home directory on the hard drive?

it should work... i have also a c3100 and hdd3 mounts perfectly now. pdaxrom is really awesome now.
about the mouse:
before i rebooted i entered the DM-Menu (there is a mouse test).
In the test the mouse lights up and i am told that the mouse is OK.
so the hardware should be working.
dmesg says the following (just the things wich sound interesting for me):
pxa_sd_wait_id_response: responce time out (cmd=01 MMC_STAT=0x2142)
//this line is written very often... about 20 to 30 times

I've installed RC12 yesterday and it seems that the ipkg scripts are not updated to find installed packages on /mnt/ide3.
I've attached my fixes for this problem. Just backup your ipkg, ipkg-install, ipkg-link, ipkg-uninstall from
/usr/bin and then overwrite them with the files from the attached archive.
Please let me know how it worked.

ok... i understand. i live in austria so it is no problem to buy something here (i bought a set with a cable with 2 normal usb plugs and 4 adapters: USB B, USB A Socket, Mini USB A and Mini USB B. this was in a nice to carry small leather bag. but it was quite expensive for 20 Euro.
could you anyway be so kind to look into /proc/bus if you have a file or another directory called 'usb'? because usb isnt working in rc12 on my zaurus... and i think there is lack of a file(s). the hardware should be ok.
thx

Nope,
I only have pccard folder in /proc/usb

aha... that's interesting.
i.e. usbh searches in proc/bus/usb. and also lsusb wants this. also it should be there... hmmm. what to do?

From [a href=\"http://www.linux-usb.org/FAQ.html#gs3]http://www.linux-usb.org/FAQ.html#gs3[/url]
I added
none /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs noauto 0 0
to /etc/fstab
and then
insmod usbcore
and now I have it and it's empty

hey hey
probably your problem in the universal USB cable. When you connect right cable in zaurus USB port, hot-plug system automatic change usb mode to host and mount /proc/usb.

hmm... i have a set of cables [a href=\"http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BDB050/202-5411144-7626265]amazon.co.uk[/url]
with a usb min a plug.
and as i said before i've tested in D+M menu the "mouse function" and the mouse lighted up and the test said: OK.
so the hardware should be alright.

Make sure you run mplayer in an xterm (xterm -e ...) then the shortcut keys work fine.

i see there are many patches for working RC12 on SL3100.
is there a new build with all patches to download ?
Downloading original RC12 and applying all the patches would be difficult for me.....

Hiya, installed RC12 on my C1000 and it runs really well, though it did turn itself off when I changed the time...
My questions are:
When is the lightweight version, with no installed applications (only the obvious configurational ones) going to be ready?
How cleanly does the packagemanager remove unwanted applications?
Thanks!
