Title: Qtopia Constantly Restarts After Installing Applet
Post by: skywise on October 23, 2005, 05:36:44 pm
I've spent the last couple of hours searching the forums and found several references to people getting out of the state where Qtopia constantly restarts (i.e., the Zaurus constantly flicks back from the "please wait 30 seconds" screen and the text console).

I've tried resetting (though not a hard reset - I'd really rather not lose all my data!) and after the reboot it still constantly starts and restarts Qtopia.

I know the applet and package that caused the problem - I just need to somehow get a system that will accept commands, so that I can remove the package!

Anybody know if there's a way to boot the SL-6000 without starting Qtopia?  Is this generic to all Zaurus models?

I'm using a stock Sharp ROM 3.12 on an SL-6000L.  In case you are curious the incompatible applet I installed was qtopia-commbbatteryapplet_1.0.6_arm.ipk.

If you have ssh installed then you can shh into the Z and remove the applet.

If not then you will have 2 options

1) reboot into the D+B mode (you will need to mount the /home partition manually then remove the applet

2) reformat the flash via the OK+Power option

D+B+Reset worked!  You are officially my new hero.

I was able to get on the console, remove the incompatible applet from /home/QtPalmtop/plugins/applets, and recreate the deleted symlink to the original battery applet.  Without losing any of my data in the process.

I actually did not have to mount /home myself - it automatically mounted it just fine.

Tomorrow I will type this up for the Zaurus FAQ so that future people who are as foolish as I am will not have to suffer my angst.  Do you happen to know if the D+B+Reset trick works for all ROMs & models, just the Sharp ROM, or just the 6000?

Thanks again for saving my butt.  I had a bunch of recent work stuff in flash that hadn't been backed up yet - I was starting to worry it was gone forever.
