FVWM is an extremely powerful ICCCM-compliant multiple virtual desktop window manager
Just for info:
Have you tried to look into Zumi's stuff? (search this forum)
He has put a lot of effort in tweaking fvwm for the Zaurus.

Thanks so much for conky! I had posted on the Request for Applications forum asking for it, I have been using a pre-Kathrin version of torsmo for too long.
-
dtruchan, thanks for ipks!
Question about mrxvt. Did you enable transparency when you compiled it? If so, it must be a problem with the x server on pdaXrom that doesn't support the type of transparency that mrxvt uses. I tried cross compiling it with transparency enabled but kept getting errors. I love the tab feature of mrxvt, but miss the transparency that aterm has.
Cheers,
Jerry

Hmm,
Guess, I'll have to play with my.Xdefaults a bit more. I use the same settings for mrxvt on my desktop & transparency works fine there.
I'm guessing that since you compiled ratpoison that's what you're using, perhaps it's a matchbox-rox issue. Anyone out there having problems with mrxvt's transparency in matchbox besides me?
**Update**
Doh! No, it was just me ! Once I commented out the following lines in my ~/.Xdefaults mrxvt*opacity: 50
mrxvt*OpacityDegree: 1
Transparency works fine! (see 2nd thumbnail)

Any idea how to resize the window so that it fits within a VGA screen?

As for mrxvt, how to enable transparent display in matchbox (there is no .Xdefaults)? Thanks!
[Update]
Got it! Just create a ~/.mrxvtrc or ~/.Xdefaults and refer to this:
http://materm.sourceforge.net/docs/xdefaults-sample.txt (http://materm.sourceforge.net/docs/xdefaults-sample.txt)
This is what I have only:
mrxvt*vt0*tabTitle: Â Â Â Â term1
mrxvt*vt1*tabTitle: Â Â Â Â term2
mrxvt*vt2*tabTitle: Â Â Â Â term3
mrxvt*initTermNumber: Â Â Â 3
mrxvt*transparent: Â Â Â Â True

Choose Setup Graphics from the on screen menu.
640x424 works well for me, without any window decorations.
Don't forget to choose Save Options, or you will have to do it each time you start.

Thanks for your handy tip, dtruchan! I'm beginnng to feel very excited about the good deal of capabilities and potentials of mrxvt (even with CJK display and input support!)

Ah. OK, thanks. When I first installed and ran it and found that the window wasn't resizable (using the window control buttons) I thought stuff it and promptly uninstalled it.
Now I've reinstalled it and on closer examination the "Setup Graphics" menu allows setting the window to whatever size you want. Silly me.
thanks again

If you just want to make the background darker you could use the tint and shade options.
for example:
mrxvt -tr -shade 50 -tint white
If you want a truly transparent background, you will have to wait for the Composite extension to be built for pdaXrom.

This is how I use the man pager (thanks dtruchan for the package!)
It works just fine. Please correct me if there is any better method.
#1 Download and install man_1.6_armv5tel.ipk in this thread and groff_1.19.1_armv5tel.ipk (coz man needs nroff) in the feeds
#2 Grab the latest man pages file from ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/docs/manpages/ (http://ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/docs/manpages/) and extract them on card (> 20MB)
#3 Edit /etc/man.conf and do a little configuration:
-- Add a new MANPATH line such as /mnt/card/man-pages-2.14
-- In the PAGER line, change /usr/bin/less -is to /bin/more (coz 'less' is missing )
-- In the BROWSER and HTMLPAGER lines set the paths of your desired browser (e.g. /usr/bin/dillo)
#4 Just type 'man any_command' to look up the relevant man pages (or man man for a good start).
