There are various threads popping up in different forums about various kinds of mods, like soldering in bluetooth and wifi, upgrading memory, etc. Since these mods aren't necessarily specific to a particular model, it would be nice to have a general forum to consolidate these discussions.
I would suggest putting it under "General Support and Discussion > Hardware Mods"
What do you think?

probably a good idea

I'm all for it!

Sounds fair enough to me. I'll talk to Mike about it, and if he has no problems I'll create it.
It would be on a trial basis though. If it's not used enough, we'll have to cut it out. We already have a lot of subforums, so we don't want another one if it's not necessary.

Maybe cull the existing stuff and put it into the per machine how tos?
then suggest that new mods be posted in machine specific forums.... multi machine could then be moved to multiple how tos?
If that would be an easier way to do it.
It would certainly be easier to make use of the info that way

I hope that lurking would be considered toward being "used enough." I would love to sit back and take notes, as I have nothing to offer, other than maybe a question or two. It would be a great learning experience. I have learned a lot from lurking here and the intricacies of hardware has always been (no pun intended), "hard," to get for me.

Assuming there will be few people actually performing these mods, but lots who are interested, it might make more sense, as adf said, to just place a (pinned) thread in the appropriate devices' hardware sections, this is what they are there for.
I also agree that the majority of the mods will be specific to a single machine anyway so centralising them is not really a major priority.
Just my thoughts (though I would certainly like to encourage the mod developers & implementers to post their info, pictures, etc. as this is really cool).

To make this easier, I've added a poll. You guys vote, and we'll do what the end result is.

Ok, so new forum won by a small margin. Tonight or tomorrow, depending on what time I get home (I'm at work), I'll add the forum.

Forum created.
If you guys know of any posts that need to be moved there, post their URLs in here and I'll move 'em.
Enjoy the new forum. I look forward to seeing some cool mods

It seems as though the new forum is invisible to guests.
Is this intentional or necessary?
-
I didn't realize it was. I'll fix it.
-
Thanks, dz. Looking good.
BTW, for all you guys who voted "no", please tell me which hardware forum threads like "Transplanting Screen From 6000 Into 3100" would really belong in?
-
yeah, yeah
