Title: C1000 Cf Vs Sd Speed
Post by: jgrauman on November 05, 2005, 01:55:34 pm
I know I've seen these questions asked before, but haven't been able to find answers. I've tried finding answers to all of these questions on the forum, but haven't been able to after considerable searching... Forgive me if they have been answered.

1) How does the speed of the cf and sd cards compare on the C1000? How fast of a card can I use in each slot (MB/s would be helpful)?

2) Is it true that the C1000 has only a USB 1.1 slot and therefore can only go 11 Mbps?

3) Is there ANY benefit of having a cf wifi/ethernet card over a usb one or visa versa (except that a 100Mb card in usb is a waste and disregarding physical considerations)?

Thanks a ton.

1 not sure, i would bet on SD under load and CF for raw speed, more on that later

2 yes, usb 1.1 only

3 the CF slot in the z maxes out at 16MB a sec (which you will never ever get, trust me) which means it can do 100mb a sec in theroy. and usb only does 11mbps but averages about 700kbps so its up to you, i would get the lan card if they are chaep and avalible

basically they share the same bus and both need the same hardware which they fight over, CF does 16MB/s while SDRAM does 400MB/s, so you can see that the CF card can greatly slow things down, oh and thats PIO, not DMA so you can cut that in half again (for CF)

however the SD card dosent suffer from this so you can acsess RAM and SD at the same time without affecting thourghput.
